Life isn't black-and-white. If it were, perhaps living would be much easier. It sounds like they are trying to live a black-and-white existence in a world that cannot support it. There is no good and evil, not in my experience. There are shades of each, times when we each lean one way or the other, but who are we to judge someone else for trying to save lives, to keep as few from dying as possible. Sometimes... as difficult as it may be to bear, you do have to sacrifice the few for the many.
