So that sure was a newbie-centric couple of days. Except most of them didn't stick around. [Yeah, it's still bugging her. No Derek, and the only members of her team were Gideon who still scares the hell out of her and a mini-Reid who she was too freaked out to even talk to. And then that weird other Tyki...]

If some of you got to see your loved ones and all that, I'm really happy for you. Really. But for totally selfish reasons, I... kinda hope it doesn't happen very often. Someone please tell me that's not a usual thing? Because if it is I'm going to stockpile junk food and make plans to hide out under the covers on a regular.

[Anyone who is in the area of the shopping hubs can find Garcia doing some retail therapy and also picking stuff up for her homebound bud, Rebecca. She's trying to cheer herself up and so a small radio is playing some upbeat and danceable music.]

Hey, Ianto. [Warmly, she does appreciate that he'd take the time to say hi.]

And yeah, you're right... except the one I was really hoping for didn't show. Ain't that always the case?

Usually. Whenever our coworkers at home came back from the dead it was always the annoying ones. [Its said in a light joking tone to cheer her up, but it's also true. Although frankly he and Owen had gotten along much better after he had died.]

Are you alright?

[That "back from the dead" comment might have thrown her if Jack didn't already spill the beans about his immortality. Weird, but what isn't weird here?] Murphy's Law extends to resurrection as well. I guess it's nice to know the universe is consistent.

I'm... I guess I'm not okay, but I think I'll be okay? I mean he's still gone and I still miss him, but it's easier than it was when he first left. Y'know?

Unfortunately yes. We must take comfort in the small things I suppose.

This isn't the first time this has happened? God, I'm sorry, that must be terrible.

No, it's not like... well. He only disappeared one time, but it sure feels like it keeps happening over and over. Every time the newbies come in and I wait to hear his voice and it's just not there.

I know it could be worse. I mean, I get that. I just can't stop thinking about how I can't even remember my life before Derek, and now he's not here and I don't really know what to do with myself.

I can't imagine what that must be like. I got lucky with Jack arriving when I did but I know I would be feeling the same way if he wasn't here. Who is Derek, if you don't mind me asking?

I don't mind. Hell, I'm surprised I didn't tell you all about it already.

Derek is my best friend. Kinda. I mean we worked together for the last eight years and got really close and I trust him with everything, and when we were both here together things... well. Became a little more than friendly, if you get my drift.

And then he was just. Gone.

Loosing someone you care about that might is never easy, and I can't imagine what it must be like with this place thrown into the mix.

It's kinda like being stuck in an angsty teenage romance novel and knowing the reader is up there alternately shouting at your naivete and reveling at your misery. Not a fun feeling, unless you're the one reveling.

If its any consolation, I think its a great deal more important than something quite so trivial sounding.

Oh, I didn't mean to make it sound trivial, I'm just saying. I totally watched TV shows where someone got whisked off to another world and at the time it was really amusing, you know, when it was just a fictional thing. I never thought I'd actually see it from the other side.

[He nods in understanding.] When I first joined Torchwood it seemed like that; like some adventure out of a science fiction film. But those don't really show the horrible sides of these sorts of things, do they?

They really don't. I mean I totally got the whole "violence isn't anywhere near as glamorous as Hollywood says it is" thing from work, but this is a while new ball of wax.

And it really sucks. We have all these parties and stuff to try and keep us happy but ultimately there's nothing that can replace your real life.

I'll agree with that. In a way how normal and inviting this place is just makes it all the worse.

You so have a point, there. It's like on one hand it almost helps you deal with the overwhelming grief, but on the other it's not really dealing with stuff, just masking it until later on.
