[ this morning finds matt out jogging, making his way in and around the hedge maze at två park. he's got a lot on his mind, so forgive him if he doesn't see you or answer you at first. today's going to be a day for sure, and it's barely even started. ]

[ though he would likely retreat back to rebekah's and get into klaus' leftover booze collection once this conversation was done and over with. matt didn't want to be here, but he owed it to elena to explain things, to tell them the truth before they stumbled upon it the same way they did last time. ] We don't need to waste time exchanging false pleasantries or pretending either of you want me here telling you about some part of Elena that you're not already aware of. I'm not here because of y'all — I'm here because of Elena, because she's a vampire and that means something that I know about is going to come into play whether you are she wants it to.

[ he sighs, stuffs his hands in his pockets. he just wants to get this the hell over with. ] She had your blood [ he turns to damon, staring at him pointedly ] in her system when she died. Because of that and her feelings for you— [ huff. there's no easy way to say this except to just say it. ] Elena's sired to you.

[ Okay. That bit about having his blood in her system? Not something he'd been made aware of, so when he hears that coming out of Matt's mouth, he sneaks a look at his brother as if to say: is this supposed to be my fault again?

And then it gets worse. ] What? [ Because this cannot be happening. A sire bond? Not here. Not again.

Instead of taking the news sitting down with that drink of his in hand, his glass is now on the floor, the liquor's seeping into the carpet -- boo -- and Matt's pinned against the wall in a chokehold. ]

Are you telling lies? [ God knows everyone hates the idea of Elena being with him. ] Because last I checked Elena's not a hybrid and I'm not an Original bastard. [ Except he remembers Charlotte and Bourbon Street. He remembers trying to break that sire bond and failing because his witch disappeared on him. ]

[Stefan's eyes meet his brothers, because no, he guesses he never did mention that, because it hadn't made it his fault. It was Rebekah's, for driving Matt off that bridge, and Meredith's for using it to heal Elena and not telling them.

For once, this wasn't Damon's fault at all.

Everything moved to fast then. Matt's news, Damon flying across the room, pining him against the wall.]

Damon stop!

[He's beside his brother in a flash, hands gripping his arm, trying to get him to release Elena's friend.]

Let him go!

[ matt struggles against damon's grip, unable to utter more than a choked out ] No. [ in response to the are you telling lies? question. he's not lying. why would he lie? why would he come here to tell them something they didn't want to hear unless it was the truth? matt wasn't stupid. he was perhaps the least stupid of all of them, and he wasn't doing this to piss them off -- he was doing it to protect elena, to stop something like what happened before from happening again.

elena didn't need blood on her hands, all because of some offhand comment damon made about someone needing to die. ]
