Day 241 | Video | Action--Open Mingle
[There is a very tall, pale, blonde man on the screen. He's wearing dark clothes and his blonde hair is slicked back. He gives the camera a charming smile. ]

I understand we're to be inundated with visitors today. I also understand that a sudden arrival here can be a disconcerting and that often requires a drink. I invite everyone to come have a drink at the Blood Shack in sector four. We've got a wide variety of drinks, both ordinary and unusual.

Come spend your day with us at the Blood Shack. We'd be delighted to have you.

[ The video clicks off.

Those that decide to take Eric up on his invitation, will find the Blood Shack up and running. During the day, a few bots can be found doing some of the mundane things like delivering drinks to tables, but during the evening Eric will be behind the bar and the presence of bots is reduced. The bar itself is dimly lit with small tables and booths places about. There's a dance floor and a stage with a pole at one end. The other end of the stage is occupied by what can only be called a throne, which Eric occupies when Spike is behind the bar. There is also a jukebox that customers can play. ]

[ooc: feel free to use this as an open mingle. I've turned off comments so if you want to speak directly to Eric, comment there.]

Good things, are you kidding? The man sings your praises to the high heavens. I half expected you to be glowing from sheer amazingness. And hey, I can't say I don't see where he's coming from. [Garcia tends to like people right away as a rule, but Rose does seem especially nice. She likes nice!]

But, y'know, I'd be more than happy to hear more about you from the horse's mouth, if you know what I mean. I only rely on gossip when absolutely necessary. Or it's really, really interesting.

Is that so? I will have to thank him somehow for being so kind about me. [How she would thank Spike is left unsaid because it was better that way.] You're sweet for saying so, Penelope. Thank you.

[He's got a good choice in friends and Rose is getting the distinct impression that the other woman is one of the good ones.]

As it happens, I much prefer to tell someone about myself and in person; so go ahead and ask some questions. Or I can just tell you about me.

No prob! I tell it like I see it, probably because I can't lie to save my life. [As if that wasn't obvious. Garcia is a typical heart-on-her-sleeve type.]

Let's see... now I'm feeling pressure to be unique rather than all "so what's your sign?". How about what you're passionate about? That's as good a place as any, and only moderately cliche.

I can handle moderately cliche. [Rose says with a laugh, trying to think of something to reply with. Vampires were typically passionate about blood and everything that came with it but she was different.]

Reading. I love books but it's been some time since I've read a really good one admittedly.

Yeah? I guess you must like this super-gigantic library we've got in here. I keep meaning to read up on crazy alien stuff just for giggles.

But really, what kinda things do you read? I'm a lot into sci-fi and all that geeky stuff... which isn't why I make friends with vampires or anything. You guys just happen to be nice and fun. Imagine my surprise.

It is incredible, yeah. But I need to take a proper look again when I get a chance. You should take a look at the alien themed books; it might prepare you if we get any aliens here. Which we probably already have now that I think about it.

I like the classics. Like Dickens and Bronte. Even if I was around at the time they were written and before that. Crime novels have held my interest but I wouldn't say they'd be the first book I'd reach for. [A beat.] Glad to hear that you've had a good experience with vampires because we're not all nice and friendly, I guarantee you.

You know, you're probably right. I like to think I'm all multiverse sophisticated now but some of the more-than-human inmates here still throw me for one. And yeah, Spike warned me about the less-awesome kind of vampire, but I've been pretty lucky so far.

[She does an actual double-take at that "around at the time they were written" thing!] Whoa, really? You're even older than Spike, huh! That's so cool. I mean, talk about perspective.

Guess you could call him my toy boy, yeah? [She couldn't resist that one. Rose couldn't resist laughing about it either because it was somewhat amusing to her.]

The truth is, I am over five hundred years old and to my knowledge, that would make me the second oldest vampire here. In my world, the older you are, the faster and stronger you are. It's a perk of old age.

That's the spirit! I think men like to be dominated, y'know? And I get the feeling he'd be a fun toy... speaking strictly hypothetically, that is. [She enjoys Spike, but has no intent to move in on Rose's territory. Garcia doesn't do that to people she likes!]

Wow. Girl, I have to admit that I'm way impressed. I asked Spike this so I just gotta ask you: what's your favorite time in history? I have kind of a thing for retro and old school and all that.

He is a lot of fun, yeah. Got a few tricks up his sleeve if you know what I mean. [Tricks that she wouldn't mention by the way because she liked to keep some aspects of her relationship with Spike private.]

Funny thing about retro and old school is that I have lived through it. But favourite time? [She has to think about that for a few moments.] 20th century. It was so interesting to watch the world progress in terms of technology, even with all the bad stuff that came with it.

Wink wink, nudge nudge. [Yeah, she says it out loud. What, it's cute.]

Man, the 20th century, huh? I guess that makes sense. I mean... Paris in the 20's, right? And it's true that without a keyboard to clack I'm pretty much lost. The past is a nice place for fashion and culture but I wouldn't wanna life there, yeah?

2013-08-26 12:25 pm UTC (link)
Oh, you definitely wouldn't want to live in some parts of Paris around that time. If you had money it wouldn't be so bad but otherwise? You'd have problems.

[And Rose had to beg, steal and borrow to survive.]

Of course, I only saw the night life because I couldn't go out in the sun but hey, that was sometimes all the more interesting.

I guess certain parts of history seem rosier when you look at them from the flip side. [It's a shame, but understandable.]

And it has to be pretty cool to be able to walk around in the daylight, yeah? Even if it's fake daylight.

You have no idea how amazing it is to enjoy the sunshine, fake or not. After five centuries of living in the dark, it is such a release.

[Not hard to tell how pleased Rose was about it.]

I think it's probably one of the best things about here.

I'm always happy that people are finding good things about this place. It makes me feel like one day I'll find one of my very own.

Not that you and Spike and people I've met aren't awesome. I guess that's my good thing. It's just rough sometimes, is all.

Yeah, it can be rough. Doesn't matter who you are or what you're capable of, this place can take its toll.

[Rose looks sympathetic, genuine with her intent and not patronising.]

I really hope you find whatever it is you need someday soon, Penelope. I may not know you that well but I think you're very deserving of it.

[Garcia smiles, it's really nice to have people get it.] Thanks. Really. I know I hardly have the monopoly on having lost people, but even so it always really helps to hear someone tell me I'm not a total basketcase for being upset.

Even if basketcase is a thing I do pretty well.

A perfectly natural reaction for you to be upset when you've lost someone close to you. Not even remotely basketcase behaviour.

[A small smile.]

How well do you do it? Now that you've brought it up, I'm a little curious.

Oh, you know. A little codependency, a dash of frantic mother hen-style worry, and a sprinkle of intrusive pestering. I know it's majorly unhealthy, but it's like when a friend's hurting I'm hurting too, and until they're okay I'm not okay. It's totally nuts but it's just how I roll.

A little nuts, yeah. But it's nice to know that there is someone around here who is willing to look out for her friends, no matter what the situation was. [Her smile grows, warmer this time.]

I do hope you take some time out for yourself though. Some TLC can go a long way you know.

Wow. You're, like, super duper nice. Not that I'm shocked or anything, but if I ever made it home and said I met the sweetest person ever and oh she's a vampire, I'd get laughed at. For more reasons than one.

...Anyway, worry not. I do the retail therapy thing and the mani-pedi thing and the OD-ing on coffee and pastries thing and the venting to people thing. I'm pretty covered.

I have had my fair share of not so nice moments but thanks. People need to know that there are some vampires around here who aren't so bad. Not perfect but capable of showing their humanity.

Good. Though retail therapy isn't something I've ever really indulged in. Just had the essentials.
