Day 241 | Video | Action--Open Mingle
[There is a very tall, pale, blonde man on the screen. He's wearing dark clothes and his blonde hair is slicked back. He gives the camera a charming smile. ]

I understand we're to be inundated with visitors today. I also understand that a sudden arrival here can be a disconcerting and that often requires a drink. I invite everyone to come have a drink at the Blood Shack in sector four. We've got a wide variety of drinks, both ordinary and unusual.

Come spend your day with us at the Blood Shack. We'd be delighted to have you.

[ The video clicks off.

Those that decide to take Eric up on his invitation, will find the Blood Shack up and running. During the day, a few bots can be found doing some of the mundane things like delivering drinks to tables, but during the evening Eric will be behind the bar and the presence of bots is reduced. The bar itself is dimly lit with small tables and booths places about. There's a dance floor and a stage with a pole at one end. The other end of the stage is occupied by what can only be called a throne, which Eric occupies when Spike is behind the bar. There is also a jukebox that customers can play. ]

[ooc: feel free to use this as an open mingle. I've turned off comments so if you want to speak directly to Eric, comment there.]

[ Peggy's dressed in a classic one piece, fitted around her curves and a belt around her waist. If she's uneasy, she doesn't show it as she turns around on a bar stool, a glass of the house Merlot in her hand. Instead, she sips at it, carefully glancing over the decor with a critical eye. ]

It's certainly not quite what I expected. The clubs now are certainly not what they were in my time.

[ even with the soldiers filling each one to the brim, the clubs of old were at least tastefully decorated. ]

[Jack's eyes run appreciatively over Peggy's form as she turns towards him, ending up on her very lovely face.]

Well, I guess Eric's decorative influence is not just a different time period but a whole different culture. [It's a bit over the top for him too, truth be told, but he likes the general atmosphere in here. He lifts an eyebrow at Peggy, lifting his glass to her with a grin.]

Have to say, the class of the place just went up a couple of notches, though!

[ she raised her own out of politeness. ]

That's kind of you to say so, even if it is perhaps misplaced.

[ Class and this bar? She had a feeling they would not go well together in high doses, although she can freely admit the owner himself is not too bad. It's nearly the entire reason she was here. ]

[He grins, and if he's at all put out by her half-rejection of his compliment, he doesn't show it.]

So what brings you here tonight, Ms Carter? Checking out the influx of newbies like me?

[ her gaze flicked around the crowd in answer. ]

Perhaps. I figure a club like this might be exactly the kind of place one of my former companions might find their way to, if they came at all.

[ she's from the army. Quality was never their first priority. ]

Is there perhaps someone in particular you are waiting for? [ she raised the query just as she turned her gaze fully back on Jack, raising her glass to take a sip as she waited. ]

[He gave her a curious look at that rather shrewd inquiry.]

There... might be a couple, yeah. [The Doctor, again. Toshiko. Owen. People he'd lost, like Ianto, and might - like Ianto - find again here.]

And you?

[ it was hardly to be unexpected though. Weren't they all waiting for someone? But she ignored that look and simply answered it smoothly, barely bating an eye. ]

As always, there are several. I have good friends who were lost during the war. If I can see them again, even if just for a day, it might make imprisonment worthwhile, wouldn't you agree?

[There's still something a little too intense about him and he's a little too quick to reply.] Absolutely! [A fleeting, deflective grin.] Especially when, for once, I wasn't really doing anything before I got stuck here. In some ways, this is almost like an extended holiday!

[Then he tilts his head, thinking about the rest of what she said.] God, I hadn't thought about the war, though. Lost a lot of people there. Might even see one or two of them some time, if I'm lucky.

[ Peggy didn't mind the quickness of his answer. It was a welcome distraction from her own thoughts and with a quick turn of her wrist, she's raising her glass towards Jack. ]

Then perhaps we should have a toast. To those who were lost and that we might see again one day.

It has a nice ring, wouldn't you agree?

[ and it's, perhaps, with a subtle surprise that Peggy's likewise thinking Jack is much, much easier to get along with now that he's wearing clothes. Perhaps she had dwelt on that for far too long. ]

I can certainly drink to that.

[Smiling, he clinks his glass against hers, eyes meeting hers above it, warm and intimate, as he drinks. Focussing on his present, very attractive, company instead of allowing himself to wallow in the memories of those he's lost. He's definitely enjoying this meeting more than their first too. There was of course a kind of savage pleasure to baiting her, especially considering the day he'd been having, but frankly? Flirting is much more fun.

He grins at the sweep of her gaze that takes in his clothes.]
I take it you appove better of this outfit, then?

[ she flashed a smile above her glass before settling to rest at waist level, enjoying the banter just as much as he was. So long as it stays friendly of course. ]

I always appreciate it when men come properly attired. In my experience, it lends a certain kind of mystery about them.

Oh well, I do agree there, I like a bit of mystery too!

[He thinks of the Doctor, and Ianto, both of whom wear layers and both of whom fascinate him, and grins.]

I've been accused of trying to be mysterious myself, but I don't know why. I'm an open book! [Totally playing now, his gaze warm and intimate.]

[ her own gaze is warm but it's more filled with mirth rather then invitation. ]

I see. I'm afraid I'm rather in agreement. There's barely a thing to ponder in your case although...

[ she paused, giving this new idea great thought before speaking again, in full (playful) seriousness. ] Perhaps there lies our mystery. After all, a man with nothing to hide must, by default, be hiding something. Or at least so it would seem.

[He smiles through the appraisal, enjoying himself far more than he ever thought he would, with her, smile widening to a smirk at the end of it.]

And what about you, Agent Peggy Carter? I feel there must be some mysteries lurking there too! What are you agent of, for example?

[ and she on the other hand, looked slightly less then amused then before. And for good reason. ]

It's just a title, Captain Harkness. I believe I mentioned before that I volunteered for the army? I'm afraid the more usual ranks are not available to women in my time.

[ and regardless of what he thinks; she's not about to say she worked on behalf of the top secret program that produced Steve. Regardless of the distance, she took her vows seriously ]

[Jack has absolutely no idea what kind of work she might have done, and he’s never heard of Captain America; he’s just generally and characteristically curious.]

No, very backward they were then, I know. [Then, with an eye-roll:] Not that much has changed in that respect even by the 21st century. They still don’t know what to do with women, really!

What sort of work did you do, that they had no other name for?
