[ the video clicks on and a confused and very pissed off guy comes into focus. tyler had been running from klaus for weeks and being stuck here, wasn't exactly the plan. ]

What the hell is this?

If I don't get some answers, someone's goin' to get hurt. I don't have time for this crap and honestly you don't want to piss me off!

[ too late for that, but he's using his 'intimidation' technique. ]

And what is with this list? What the hell is wrong with this system? Are you kiddin' me? Dude...way to make me out as a bad guy.

[ he thought things were slowly falling into place, that soon he would be able to come back home to Mystic Falls, but this wasn't the case. an underwater prison was going to be torture, controlling his anger will be harder than he thinks. ]

Why are you picking at it? Stop! What's really wrong? You say it's been a long time since you've seen me? How long, huh? I don't even know why the hell we're stuck in this place besides the messed up list that woke me up and now this? Now you're mad at me because I'm protecting you? [ he turns away for a moment, closes his eyes. ]

[ she moves to pull on his shoulder, trying to force him to look at her. now she's on a roll.] We're stuck here and we're safe from all that crap back home. [ he turns to face her again, his eyes finally meeting hers. now he's pissed. her accusations of tyler being on rebekahs side wasn't something he'd ever expect to happen in his future. he hated rebekah, but she was right. ] I know it matters to you. But it's not right and it's not my place to say anything.

[ his eyes widened at what she says next. he was more confused now than ever. ] You're mad at me over something I couldn't control? What the hell are you saying? What did you screw up? [ and he's in her face now, staring her down. ]

of course, her own eyes widen she realizes she's pretty much laid it out, she has to tell him now and she moves to take a step back when he gets in her face.] I screwed up, okay? Something happened and I didn't mean for it to happen. It... [ her jaw flexes and she sort of backs down a bit, her posture and expression morphing into one of guilt. and she knows it doesn't matter, she's going to hurt him no matter how bad she feels about what she did. what's worse is a part of her doesn't feel bad because it was what she needed, what she wanted. it feels as though it was a long time coming, as though it took a year for it to happen but it was really only a matter of months.] It's so complicated, Tyler.

[ something's wrong. he could sense it, see it in her eyes when she takes a step back. this was it. she was keeping something from him too, something that scared her enough to move away from him. screwed up? his brows furrow, lips part slightly and he exhales. it was a shaky one, as if he was dreading what was probably going to slip through her lips next. she said she hadn't seen him in so long, and then it hits him. she probably didn't wait for him. his hands turn to fists, shaking. ] What's complicated, Caroline?

[ she says his name and it's said with defeat. even as she says it she feels a slight warmth in her heart. he'd been there for her, helped her through being here, through everything she'd been struggling with. and at the time, she'd been angry with tyler. she hadn't given up on him, she hadn't stopped loving him. and falling into bed with stefan... she never planned on doing it.] Stefan and I are complicated. [ she finally looks up at him, feeling sick.] I never stopped loving you. Never. But it just... happened. [ just like she and tyler had happened in the wake of her mourning her relationship with matt (and maybe even before that).]

[ was it wrong for him to feel this way? to feel betrayed, to have the urge to hunt the vampire down and rip him apart? and caroline? how could he ever trust her again. he closed his eyes to the inevitable, never imagining he'd have to confront something like this with her - the girl he thought he'd spend eternity with. he expected so much more from her. his eyes open again, watery, fighting the urge to push her against the wall and demand answers. what did he do to deserve this from the girl that he loved? especially now, with everything that has happened to him. everyone was just dying around him and she was the only person he had right now. still the memory of his mom dying at the hands of klaus was alive, haunting him constantly and now this? he lost her to stefan. tyler ignored what she was saying, the name was enough to make him step back, away from her. anger emanating from his every pore, and his desire to shift only increasing. his breathing is heavy now,

his dark eyes flickered warningly, ] Leave now.

[ it had nothing to do with him and everything to do with her. with her shortcomings, with the things she needed. she hadn't been through the same things as him but that didn't make what she did excusable. he'd done nothing wrong and she'd hurt him. he hadn't lost her to stefan but she knows, when he says what he does, that she's lost him. she'd stayed true to him through everything even when klaus turned up the charm. but stefan is not klaus, not by a long shot, at least not in caroline's eyes. stefan, the stefan she knows, had helped her, he'd been there for her when no one understood. it wasn't his blood that ran through her veins so it's not some blind siring effect, she's loyal to him because he earned it from her, and she cares about him. now it's just... deeper.

he steps back and she steps forward even as she feels the hairs on the back of her neck starting to stand up. her voice cracks as she says--] Tyler... [ sorry doesn't cut it, she knows that, but she is sorry for hurting him.]

[ nothing that she would say would ever make up for this. he knows that she's been here longer, had to be alone for months probably but he did the same. he left mystic falls because he knew that if he stayed, klaus would kill him. but he remained true to her, and expected the same in return. stefan, really? he would have never suspected such a thing. what about elena? he thought klaus was the problem, that he would somehow lose her to the monster that tore his life apart and his hybrid pack. he takes another step back, shaking his head, refusing to even attempt to understand her or even forgive her. ]

[ his eyes change into a dark color, veins surfacing around them and his fangs slowly emerge. he thought he'd somehow gained some type of control, that he could somehow ignore the pain she caused him and be able to face her. but he couldn't do just that. he didn't want to look at her. he didn't want to see the girl he fell in love with like this. broken. so far away from what he remembered her to be. why did he still love her? even in this dreadful moment when he felt as though someone had plunged a stake into his heart. for a moment he wished klaus was here, he wanted it to be over. ]

Nothing you say will change anything. Leave now. I'm warning you.

[ the thing is, she didn't want to try to explain it to him. she knows how it will all sound. like excuses. flat and empty. it didn't matter how much she loved him or how much he loved her, she'd broken whatever they had by feeling something for stefan. it didn't matter that what happened with stefan, it was what she needed more than anything. she doesn't like being that insecure girl, the one who needs to be loved, to feel loved. but she still is despite how much she's changed.

she knows she has to face the consequences of what she's done to him. she can't expect forgiveness now or maybe even ever. and the way he tenses, the way his body seems to lose control, she knows better than to try to say anything else with or without his threat.

he's been through more than she knows and still her heart aches for him. the girl she is now is not all that different from the girl he knew, although she's months behind him and a little fractured from her experiences here. at first whatever this is with stefan was just a harmless flirtation, a friendship that grew closer, just like she and tyler had until it culminated into something more intense. she didn't love stefan, not like she loves tyler, but that doesn't mean she doesn't care for him either.

and that's unfair to tyler too. so she moves back, nodding as she presses her lips together and tears well up in her eyes. she decides the only thing she can do for him now is tell him where to go. she tells him where matt and rebekah are staying in a soft broken voice, even if it kinda kills her to send him there, like he's going to be on the 'other team' or something, but she put him there, didn't she? and with one last look, she nods and moves to walk away.]

[ his mind told him not to watch her leave, to ignore his heart and embrace the alpha in himself. the gene he had fought long and hard to keep from surfacing. he loved her, it was true and it pained him to see her with tears in her eyes, but he hurt too. he felt betrayed, like she didn't respect the love that they had. but who was he to expect this from her? to want her to wait for him, to put her in such a high pedestal. did she not love him with the same intensity? had it been just a momentary crush that only lasted because of all the life and death situations that fueled their bodies with adrenaline? God, he hoped it wasn't a lie. The funny thing is that Stefan was the first person he spoke to and none of this was said until now. what was he going to do? stick with matt? side with rebekah from now on?

finally, he looks at her, watching her walk away from him and in that eternal moment he could feel a part of him die. the only part that he liked. he retracts his fangs, one crystal clear tear falls down his cheek while his eyes slowly lighten again, the veins suddenly disappearing. and as she leaves far enough that he loses sight of her, his fists finds contact with a wall. He didn't care, didn't feel the pain anymore. He was numb.
