Day 226 | voice + closed action
Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope y'all are enjoying the snow and the amazing hot cocoa they've put out for us today, 'cause I certainly am.

So I know this is super last-minute, but we should do a "Secret Santa" gift exchange too. For those of you not from planet Earth, Secret Santa is this thing where we gather a group of people, randomly give each one a name, and y'all then have to buy that person a present. If that sounds like something y'all would be up for, let me know! The more people we can get for this, the better.

I'm still working on the logistics, so I can't exactly answer every question. I can, however, promise a ton of fun.

[action / closed to Wally, M'gann, Artemis, and Zatanna]
[Sometime later, Bart heads over to Wally's apartment with a couple of large gifts in tow. Family should stick together on Christmas, right? Even if he's not technically family yet. He doesn't know if he'll run into Wally's roommates, but he still felt kind of responsible for them. Sure, they could handle themselves. He didn't doubt that, but it was Christmas! Who was going to help them make dinner? Or decorate the tree? Or sing cheesy Christmas carols at the top of their lungs? They needed a cool uncle for some of that, didn't they?

Bart takes a deep breath before knocking on their door. It's funny, how he's so nervous about something this simple, but he can't help it. For the first time in years, he'll get to celebrate Christmas with family, and that's kind of fantastic.]

Oh, so you're from another planet? That's cool. [His interest has been piqued!] I don't know how things run where you're from, but Christmas's... just Christmas?

You spend the day with your family, have a good meal, and give presents to each other because technically we're celebrating the birth of our God, but people kind of forgot about that part years ago.

[ there's a lot she could say to that, from "my family was assimilated" to "god does not exist," but the former was personal trauma she did not enjoy discussing and the latter seemed cruel. even for her and her usual tactless ways. she's learned a lot about simply standing back and allowing people of different, more primitive times to believe what they wish no matter how wrong they are. thus, she refrains. ]

What sort of gifts do you typically receive?

[Bart would be kicking himself if he knew of the former - he's not exactly known for his sensitivity, but he'll be darned if he doesn't try.]

It depends. My friends get me cash, since I travel a lot, but I've gotten candy, sweaters, coffee mugs, running shoes... The gift itself isn't what matters, it's the thought that went into it.

Even if the gift is not something you could use or of value?

[ thought. kindness. intent holding more weight than purpose. these are all human concepts she's still in the process of fully grasping, though concepts she's not entirely unfamiliar with. ]

Especially if it's worthless. They got it for you because they care for you, you know?

Otherwise, they prolly wouldn't have bothered.

If the gift is worthless, why not return it?

For sentimental reasons, I guess. Usually, the worthless presents end up being useful somewhere down the line.
