Day 217 ✝ Action / Voice
[Earlier in the morning, Derek is running around the Defense Force headquarters. Mostly, he’s been acquainting himself with the updated roster for the Force, especially his Investigative Team. He sends out a quick message to said Investigative Team informing them that there will be a meeting that afternoon at three. It isn’t mandatory so if they miss it, it’s not a big deal. But they will be discussing a course of action to try to learn more about the prison.

As he also notes that his sector patrol team has changed, he decides to touch base with the new people as well. He’s not a huge fan of changes, but he handles it better if he gets the upper hand on it. So during his lunch break (street food stands in sector 0), he tosses them a private message.

[ private voice to Terry McGinnis and Zero Kiryuu ]
Hey, name’s Derek Morgan. I see we work Sector One together and thought we should touch base so we know who we’re workin’ with.

ooc: The Investigative team meeting is a mingle. Derek will intro and let them know what it’s about, but feel free to thread with anyone in attendance. Also, anyone is free to run into Derek at HQ or when he breaks for lunch.

"Mapping it is a good plan." Derek looks down at his notebook as he makes some notes in his chicken-scratch style handwriting. He asks his next question without looking up.

"You uhm... you doin' alright, genius?"

He tenses some at the question. Just a tad, barely noticeable unless you happen to either know him well or be an experienced profiler. So much have been going on lately — always — and between Hotch and Emily and some other things that he hasn't even allowed himself to process yet, there's only one answer he can give.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just fine."

Derek knows Reid very well, too well, maybe. He isn't sure he needs to be an experienced profiler to read him, but he supposes it doesn't hurt. "About as fine as me. We can be just fine together."

He looks up to Reid, draws a deep breath and slowly exhales. "I'm sorry I lost my temper with you. It wasn't about you. You know that, right?"

"I know." It's short and tense and close to dismissive. He approached Morgan with some desire to patch things up but now that they're here, he can't really handle it. Never could.

"I probably shouldn't have told you in the first place. It can't be good, knowing things about your future."

"No, I'm pretty sure that's something I needed to know." Derek answers decisively. He'd rather be in the know than to have things hidden from him. By his way of thinking, that made Reid the most trust-worthy person he knew aside from Garcia.

"I get it. I'm glad she's alive. I just..." He shakes his head. "Anyway, the grid search. Maybe you could help me organize it."

"Sure, I can do that. Do you want to set it up like a search party?" Pretty happy to leave that subject behind now, he gratefully latches on to work. "I've heard that the communicators don't work as well in there though... so maybe we need to establish some other system of communication."

"Yeah, we can set up teams, no one goes in alone. Give everyone ribbons to section off where they've searched to make sure every inch is searched. And we might even do it twice, switching sections just to keep everyone honest." Because Derek doesn't trust this kind of work to anyone but his BAU team. So a double check on each section of the sector would make him feel better.

"I might go through there and map it out to begin with just so we can grid-line it off for each team." He adds. "A crappy map is better than no map. What do you suggest for communication?"

He nods, agreeing with the basics of this plan... although, there is one detail he's not too keen on. He doesn't want to risk losing any more teammates, thank you very much.

"Take someone with you? With the interfering being as bad as it is, we won't be able to send in backup if something should happen..." Non-negotiable, Derek. He'll sick Garcia on you if he needs to.

"As for communication... we do have a lot of tech specialists around. I don't think it should be that hard to set up a basic two-way radio... whether that works around the interference or not remains to be seen, but maybe it doesn't hit every frequency. A telepath would probably be easier but as far as I know, we don't have one."

Derek considers this for a moment, not really wanting the company but knowing Reid is probably right. "I'll consider it. Don't think anything will really happen while I'm in there on my own."

He's glad for the idea though. "Even on the investigative team we have some people who have technology that's... pretty advanced. Data, Jack, Picard. Maybe they could set something up."

"Sure, if you really think you're good going up against a pack of raptors on your own..." So dryly. Have you not seen Jurassic Park? He doesn't push it though. Not his job and the one who did deal with Morgan isn't around anymore.

"It couldn't hurt to ask. If the interference can be bypassed, I'm sure they would have a better chance of doing it."

Derek chooses to ignore that dry comment for the moment. Yeah, he knows he needs to go in with someone. No, it doesn't fit in with his solo-act game plan. Yes, he'll eventually concede to getting help. And yes, it would be nice if Hotch was still here because he knows Hotch would have gone in with him and in that kind of situation, he trusts him to have his back.

"I guess that's our first step in setting this things up. Better communication within the sector and puttin' together a map for a grid search."

He pauses. Speaking of Hotch. "What are your thoughts on the dimensional stabilizer?"

If Reid didn't already feel like he was pushing his luck much too hard, he'd suggest Kitty — there's no better companion than one who can make you intangible should there be a need for it. This isn't the time for it though and so he leaves it be, silently hoping that Morgan is smarter than this. They do a lot of risky solo business, but back home there are no dinosaurs involved.

"The dimensional stabilizer..?" A beat of silence as he tries to gather up his thoughts. "Honestly, I'm not sure anymore. I thought it was a timeline diverger and... well, like the name implies, something to stabilize this dimension after it's been manipulated. Malfunctions usually result in strange incidents and any disappearances could be explained by the stabilizer being unable to secure their existence here."
