Day 217 ✝ Action / Voice
[Earlier in the morning, Derek is running around the Defense Force headquarters. Mostly, he’s been acquainting himself with the updated roster for the Force, especially his Investigative Team. He sends out a quick message to said Investigative Team informing them that there will be a meeting that afternoon at three. It isn’t mandatory so if they miss it, it’s not a big deal. But they will be discussing a course of action to try to learn more about the prison.

As he also notes that his sector patrol team has changed, he decides to touch base with the new people as well. He’s not a huge fan of changes, but he handles it better if he gets the upper hand on it. So during his lunch break (street food stands in sector 0), he tosses them a private message.]

[ private voice to Terry McGinnis and Zero Kiryuu ]
Hey, name’s Derek Morgan. I see we work Sector One together and thought we should touch base so we know who we’re workin’ with.

ooc: The Investigative team meeting is a mingle. Derek will intro and let them know what it’s about, but feel free to thread with anyone in attendance. Also, anyone is free to run into Derek at HQ or when he breaks for lunch.

Darn right something's on my mind, and that'd be you. Reid told me what happened when you found out about Emily and now she's here, and no matter how you want to act like everything's fine I am seriously beginning to get an ulcer worrying about you, and with Korra just out of the hospital and Asami having problems and -- everything I need you to be okay, okay? And you know I don't give up until I get my way so you may as well just give in and let me make it better.

[Taking a breath at long last]

...Please, Derek. Talk to me.

[He eats a whole hot dog in three bites, cause that's just how he is. But the tell is in that he does so before he says anything. One bite while he listens to her. And two more bites to stall as he absorbs the fact that she knows and while he tries to figure out how he feels about that, or about talking about this in general.

Then he stalls even more by asking a counter question first before giving in to her and coming back to the topic at hand.] What's goin' on with Asami? [He knew about Korra.]

[She looks at him incredulously] Seriously, that's the first thing you ask? I will happily give you every detail on what's going on there but it seems just a tad off base to start with someone else's problems, doncha think?

I was hoping we could start with something like 'Penelope my darling, you are wise as you are beautiful and I will happily tell you that Emily lying to us really upset me and I'm having trouble dealing with the fact that she's here now.'

[He probably should have known that that wouldn't fly. But it was in Derek's nature to worry about everyone but himself. He usually worked things out in the gym or on the houses he rebuilt back home. But then, Penelope almost always had him pegged down pretty well on whatever he was feeling.]

Penelope... [He shakes his head. He's been trying so hard to just go about his business and pretend everything was fine.] You are wise and beautiful. And you obviously know what's goin' on up in my head. So... yeah, maybe I'm havin' trouble dealing.

You forgot 'my darling'. But I'll take it. [With a warm smile, she reaches over to grab his hand and rests her cheek on his perfectly muscled shoulder.]

So what do you say you let me take care of you instead of running away and doing the lone ranger thing? We could do out to dinner and then, I dunno, something date-like. Teach me how to ice skate, but not too well so I spend most of the time clinging to you. And I can't promise I won't bring up heavy stuff but if you're actually smiling for once, that real Derek Morgan smile, I'll be just as happy with that.

[As she speaks, the corners of his lips twitch just enough to almost smile but not quite. He's unsure about wanting to actually talk about how he's feeling about everything or about letting her take care of him. But the fact that she said 'date-like' has him considering letting her anyway. Garcia time is really one of his favorite times to have.

Finally, he smiles. It isn't his normal smile that lights up his entire face. It's still wrought with emotions he's holding back. But it's genuine.] You askin' me out on a date, baby girl?

[She's not thrilled with the way he can smile and still look so sad, or serious, or whatever, but at least it's a smile. He's trying, and that means everything to her.]

Darn right I am, gorgeous. How's your schedule tonight? I can offer something in a shoulder rub on the beach and a catnap in one of those adorable little huts with the fire pit. And probably s'mores because I love them, and I love you, so it's like a theme.

I wasn't planning anything tonight. [Except what he'd been doing every night since learning about Emily, which is patrolling his sector or working out at the athletic complex until he knew everyone at the apartment would be asleep and then crashing.]

You and a beach? S'mores would be the cherry on top, mama. I think my punishment is only for entertainment types of buildings, not locations.
