Was he trying to make Sookie feel better? Yes, but he was also being honest. They were two different sorts of blood.
And yes, he was blood bound to someone else, but that bond wasn't as strong as the one between he and Sookie, which was renewed on a regular basis and strengthened with emotion that wasn't manipulated by the dome and it's pheromones. His bond with Sookie was special and intimate and meaningful. His bond with Helix was nothing more than the one he shared with Lafayette back home. It was one that would fade quickly enough.
