[ it's been oh-so-stifling, having richard be the "main face" for the few days jim has been here. under any other circumstance, he'd have self-control in excess, enough to just deal with this itching feeling under his skin, in his bones, just in him.

but today is strange.

something seems to be smothering his filter, veering him off that fine line he walks. he's certainly clever enough to know when reigning himself in is the smarter choice, but right now, it doesn't feel like it matters.

it was easier in the morning to bite it back, but as the day dragged on, jim grew more and more restless. by evening it's to the point where he just can't handle it. richard is taking the backseat again, he decides: this strange little prison has proven interesting enough to get a taste of one james moriarty. so, the simple transformation from awkward, fidgeting, rumpled richard to sleek-suited, eerily graceful jim takes place in a matter of minutes in private. then he's out and about, finally. anyone who saw his opening broadcast would most likely be able to recognize his face, despite the change in style. otherwise, you'll probably just be seeing someone who looks like he has somewhere to be and something to do. ...and possibly someone to maim.

he's full of pent-up energy, so he can be found roaming almost anywhere in the dome.

[ piter is on his way back to his apartment from the hospital when he sees jim walking his way. of course he recognizes him— he never forgets a face, let alone one that had the insolence to attempt to sass him. at the sight of this new style of his, however, his lips twitch upward in a small smirk. he's always been able to tell when a man is hiding something. it's why he's such a terribly effective interrogator.

as jim nears, piter says nothing— he merely continues smirking, as if to say that he knew all along.

[ oh! how pleasant. that's actually not sarcasm. this particular hawkfaced man is just the ticket to an interesting night, jim thinks, recalling their interactions over the network. he's not quite sure which way things to go, but what matters here is that they're face-to-face, and he's finally him, and oh god it feels so good. ]

Helloooo, you.

[ he saunters right on up to him, that strange smile of his making a comeback. ]

Fancy seeing you out and about. What a co-inky-dink.

[ jim approaching him so forwardly makes him take a step back and straighten his back, regal, composed out of instinct. that smile is fascinating to him, though— and he notes, as he mirrors the grin, that he and this fellow are the same size, conveniently eye to eye. ]

Good afternoon. [ he chuckles, very softly. this is interesting indeed. despite the fact that a part of him is irate about having nary a clue as to what a "coinkeedink" is, the fascination that he feels toward this man overrides it.

he doesn't think he needs to mention that a change seems to have come over the man before him. instead, he just goes on grinning his manic grin.

[ jim takes note of that posture shift, how instinctual and quick it was. it's almost like blood in the water, a drive for more. ]

And to you too, I suppose. How are you, then? Been a day or two since we've talked.

[ it's fun, assuming this familiar tone with him, even if they don't quite know each other. well. sort of. but not on this level of casual, not at all. ]

One day. [ he can't help that urge to set jim straight— his mind doesn't allow him to forget such things, and if jim is truly so eager to speak to him all of a sudden, he should at least have his dates in order.

after taking a moment to allow his little emendation to sink in, his hands move daintily, gracefully, to lace behind his back. he appears casual yet aloof, eyebrows raised slightly, questioning jim's sudden familiarity.
]

But, my word! Only a day, and yet such concern. Shall I send you my memoirs?

Autographed, please, I'd be honored.

[ he assumes a similar posture, just because he finds mimicking other peoples' behaviors is amusing (and sometimes unnerving for the other person, which is always a bonus, but he doubts that it'll be that way with piter). ]

It's so rude of you not to ask in return! I'm lovely, thank you very much.

[ his smile turns somewhat sweeter, subtler, more genuinely amused. "honored?" goodness, this fellow is layering on the flattery. ]

You are very welcome, Mister Lovely. [ he's actually making that joke, and in such complete and total deadpan that it would sound sincere if not for the slight roll of the eyes it's accompanied by. he is not unnerved by you at all, little buddy. ] But you'll find that I am a terribly rude man.

[ the absurdity and unoriginality of the joke makes jim snicker, the sound sharp and unnerving. ]

Good. That's how I like them. More fun that way, you know?

[ the look on his face just continues to establish how unfazed he is by this change. if anything, he's quite amused, and certainly curious. he is beginning to see shadows of himself in this man— in his tone and his laugh, in the air that surrounds him. ]

You'll also find that amusing one such as yourself is not something I concern myself with. [ a slightly scornful, mocking look settles on his face, blending with the smirk already present. ]

Well, isn't that a pity. So much wasted potential...

[ he shrugs, casually, as if it's nothing. which in the end, it is. if he won't play, surely he can find someone else, right? ]

Potential. [ snickering, he looks defiantly back at jim, as if to say that he knows nothing of piter's true potential. ]

Tell me, is there any reason why I should prioritize the demands of a stranger? [ surely jim cannot resist this sassy face. eyebrows raised exaggeratedly, he mirrors that shrug. he can certainly play. he just prefers to play by his own rules. ]

It wounds me to hear you imply that there isn't, at least when that stranger is me.

[ he pouts at that, now, arms crossed over his chest like a child. jim is a very, very theatrical man, and each and every expression of emotion, whether it's real or faked, reflects that. ]

[ they certainly have theatrics in common. generally, piter has kept his more controlled for the time he's been here, but meeting jim on today of all days is simply bringing it all out in him. piter's face twists into a baleful expression, but the light that dances in his eyes is bright and mirthful. ]

How unfortunate that you are so very fragile.

[ rose is restless today, more so than usual. she doesn't like being in one place for so long, even if the doctor and jack are here with her. as a result, she is prowling the dome. she only stops long enough to peek in the pet cafe and play with some of the cats there.

it's possible she thinks that she and the doctor need a cat.

she glances up from petting a giant ginger cat to see rich.]

[ oh, hey, look, it's someone jim doesn't want to instantly snark and send away. he's not exactly fond of rose -- as himself, at least -- but her compassion and interest is enough to make him curious. ]

How observant! Yes, I've grabbed myself a couple. There's a depressingly limited selection, in my not-so-humble opinion.

[ she'll probably notice his shift in tone from when she interacted with him as rich. it's a lot more fluctuating and singsong-y, now. ]

[ and curiosity passes for fondness with jim, doesn't it? ]

Not much call for suits here, I guess? You're havin' a good day though?

[ she assumes because of the singsong-y voice. it seems happy to her ]

[ there is indeed a bit of truth in that. a lot of things pass for jim's own equivalent of "fondness" -- mostly anything that warrants a label of "you aren't worth killing right this second, you might prove interesting". ]

That's where you would be remiss! There's always call for suits. To say otherwise is a sacrilege. But I am wooonderful, thank you for asking. Feels good to be out.

[ he's just going to keep on going and see how long it takes her to pick up on it all. ]

[ rose is well aware that there's something different, something going on with rich, but she'd never guess that 'rich' had been an act and that this was the real man. ]

Been keepin' yourself cloistered up a bit too much?

I don't plan on it. Wouldn't say it was a mistake, per se, but this is clearly the better course of action from here on out, wouldn't you say?

There's lots to see here, even if it is a small sorta place, so yeah, I'd agree. Keepin' yourself cloistered up isn't a good idea.

Well, well, look who's adjusted to his new surroundings. Finally decided sniveling was for the birds?

You really are just that dense, aren't you? Well, no, actually, wait. I should take that as a compliment to my acting skills -- oh, even taking it that way, you're still dense.

[Narrowing his eyes slightly as his brain clicks it all into place. Ignoring his utter annoyance at being called dense, knowing damn well he's on par if not more brilliant than this filthy human, he can't help but be impressed by his acting. He was convinced the guy was a sniveling twat.

So. Playing to the bleeding hearts in Marina. Clever, there were plenty to go around.

Oh, you mean like your ploy to tug on the bleeding heart strings of Marina?

Please, it's almost too easy to gain sympathy or twist people around your finger. You don't even have to LIE that much to their face to get it.

Seriously, put your ego back in your pants it's not that big an accomplishment.
