Stronger people than Rose could have been crushed under the weight of that voice, Rose’s shoulders tensing, hating that he was reprimanding her. If he knew the truth though? Well if he was pissed at her now it would be nothing compared to what he would be if she explained it all to him and rather than submit to his interrogations, anger flared in her chest, anger she couldn’t quite explain as she came to a stop and turned on him.
“What does any of this matter now, hrmm?” Perhaps couldn’t quite explain wasn’t the best way to describe it. She knew where it came from. She had all but walked through fire to restore him, hell she would have done that too if she’d needed to and yet Lissa was the one he credited, the one who saved him, the one he owed. She got cast aside like she was nothing and now she was stuck here with him having to be constantly reminded of how she felt about him and how he didn’t feel about her and, well for want of a more eloquent way of putting it? It sucked!
Rose took a deep breath and slowly let it out, trying to calm herself the way she’d seen him do a thousand times before. While a part of her wanted to tell him everything, wanted to make him see that he did owe her, she also knew she didn’t want him to only stick around out of some stupid debt he felt he needed to pay and that, more than anything else was what helped her to hold her tongue.
“Some things you’re just better off not knowing okay.” Trying to force a calm she didn’t quite feel.
