[ his glass is slowly draining, and as he looks at it, he realizes a number of things.
the first is that he hasn't been truly inebriated in his life. the second is that he has no desire to reach such a heightened stage of drunkenness. the third thing he realizes is that he is, despite that, on his way there. his words aren't yet slurring and his reflexes are still sharp, but he feels -- what is the word? -- buzzed, and is not fond of it. it is a vulnerability.
and so he pushes his glass ever so slightly away and focuses on atton's words rather than the pleasant burn of the liquor, reminding himself that he at least has self control with this swill. ]
