[ It really did seem like the situation was about to take a turn for the worse — so far Aidan had been able to handle the terrain just fine but in his desperation to get away from those sharp teeth he couldn't quite keep his balance and before long a nefarious tree-root snatched his feet out from under him.
He went down solidly, a pained groan slipping past his lips. It's cut short — he doesn't have time to feel pain — as he quickly rolls himself to the side, narrowly avoiding the snapping of jaws. The rod is lost during the fall but he knows his animals and he knows how to be resourceful. Green eyes darting between the raptor and his surroundings Aidan continued to push himself back, blindly groping for a new weapon and soon enough his fingers close around a tree branch. Sharp end. Good grip.
Teeth gritted he tightens the grip around the branch and waits for the raptor to descend on him again — and then he plunges the sharp end of the branch deep into the reptiles throat, right under the jaw. ]
