[ The blow connects solidly against the side of the raptors head, successfully startling it enough for Aidan to slip over the other side, rod swung low at a leg. He continues this game of tag for as long as he's able, hitting just hard enough to keep the beast at bay without doing any serious damage — proving a point and nothing more. He still got that bleeding heart of his and killing an animal just for fun is something he'd never bring himself to do.
Although he's not very aggressive it's easy to see that he's not completely out of his depth. Aside from a few (deliberate?) close calls the raptor doesn't really get close enough to hurt him and his timing is excellent, body kept low and eyes never leaving his opponent. Years of working on a farm with spooked horses and stubborn cattle has made his senses well attuned for reading body language and that is what he's doing now.
After a good ten minutes of this dance, the raptor finally has enough or perhaps Aidan is running out of steam. With a screech it attacks with the intent of swatting this annoying fly, a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth snapping after the boy as he scrambles back. ]
