I suppose you're right... though I think it has a lot to do with the point of view. We see crime scenes and murder methods as statistics and probabilities, stereotypes. Quantity over quality, in a way and it's easy to get caught looking at the bigger picture, missing the subtle nuances that you can only experience if you're the one fulfilling the fantasy, so to speak.
