He recognizes himself in Helix. It'd be a lie to say anything else and the biggest difference between them is that he really did have decades to play in before he even got here. He's got his reputation. He's proven himself as one of the most dangerous and ruthless vampires in the world and so what he sees mirrored in this brash, immature brat is a side of himself better left forgotten.
