Alright kiddies, here be the next info post for the upcoming event this weekend (Mar 27) that will be continuing every weekend/ IC night until Day 63 (May 10-16) along with the victim/ witness lists.
For newcomers to Marina, this is a player-organized, mod-approved event spanning one IC week in which inmates will steadily lose lifeforce/ energy. I apologize for those of you new ones interested in making your muses suffer, but there will be no more volunteers accepted for the event. This does not mean that your character(s) can't participate at all; quite the opposite, as this event was created for the purpose of getting inmates to interact with those they normally wouldn't in order to figure out what is happening in the prison. If you don't want to have anything to do with this (as much as one can ICly) , that's absolutely fine. But I really encourage making use of this to get some CR in motion; especially if you're struggling with posts.
That said, down to the updates and information now.
First of all, what's going on here exactly?
Unintentional late-night snacks. No, really. :9
Tear will be unconsciously creating an Area Of Effect/ bounded field each night, and this will be leeching out life and energy from inmates. Due to the fatal poison in her, she always has to expend energy to undo and heal some of the damage it makes on her body-- depleting her power and generally making her weaker. It's almost like craving during withdrawal. She's not home, so she can't replenish enough energy at a set rate to make up for what she's losing between healing herself constantly and helping others, but it's something she can deal with and suppress when there's a conscious effort to do so. This effort naturally goes down when she's asleep, making it easier-- and possible-- for the want to manifest through abilities.
This will be a continuous effect; once someone is leeched from, they will progress through all future stages. Someone coming into a later phase will be hit immediately with that phase's symptoms, instead of the gradual build-up earlier victims suffered.
No one will have this ENTIRE information. This isn't something that someone could guess by just looking at her, or even having known Tear for a time. Only a handful of people have an inkling of what she's capable of and what's happening to her, because of her nature, and even then it would take some brainstorming, noticing hints, and perceptiveness.
So how are our characters supposed to ICly figure things out?
Just as I said above, there will be things to notice-- but no one will know enough at the start to be able to connect the dots or maybe notice that there are dots. Talk. Share information with each other.Hack other conversations with player consent This is the point of the event.
I don't want to see any infomodding, please. This means no character knowing what they shouldn't or focusing where they wouldn't have any reason to ICly, ie. everything Tear does should not be put under a microscope by someone who doesn't have enough information/ reason to even suspect her, or broadcasting it's for sure a growing AOE on just the second day. If you're not sure what to watch for, just ask! I like to think I'm approachable.
What's a bounded field and what does it look like?
Bounded field is another term for an Area Of Effect. This in particular is one that expands its territory-- and becomes more visible as it grows larger, though no sign of it will exist except at night. During that time, it will appear to be intricate glyphs and markings on the floor/ ground with writing like this featuring prominently.
What about people who aren't witnesses? Can't they go searching/ be out at night?
Of course! They just won't find anything visible or concrete. If they wanted to set up group patrols or stakeouts, they are more than welcome to. Just know that nothing will come of it, save some CR and/ or possible hilarity-- because likely, Gino someone will set up a sing-a-long to keep spirits high when it's clear that nothing's being found out there. The night post can be used for those other than the witness to post and notice something amiss, as well.
How do powers/ abilities play out with this?
We all play different characters with different standards, even with the limiter set on them in Marina. As such, everyone is going to vary with this event.
Bystanders, while not able to find or see the field, can have other ways to be alerted to its presence-- namely those with good senses for "magic/ spiritual" things. Ammy, for example, would be able to tell when the area of effect activates. She would not, however, be able to track it to the source or know what exactly it is right off the bat. This depends entirely on what characters are capable of so there can't really be a set standard, just use moderation and don't god-mode. It's one thing to be able to tell someone has powers, another to be able to tell they are being used at a distance, and if Ammy, a goddess, can't get a hold on the field then someone like Zelda, while powerful in her own right, should not be able to go right to where it is. Powers can also be an IC excuse for why all of the people who didn't volunteer are unaffected, if you'd like.
Victims, if you're powerful or an advanced life form that can resist something like this somewhat, you might find that you're maybe a little better off than others that got hit. If you're a normal human with absolutely no defense for this, you could end up slightly worse off than most people. You guys have leeway here! But again, use common sense. There really shouldn't be someone completely knocked out the first day, or a victim walking around just yawning a bit on the fourth day. And, every night post will be describing the general severity of the latest wave for those who want the reference.
Can we do our own thing/plot during this?
The Noah-kin seem to have one in progress already, perhaps, and I enable this so hard. If anyone wants to take advantage of this situation to make things worse or to set up their own little idea, go right ahead! Remember common courtesy though: try not to derail the main plot and others', and to ask for player and mod permission when/ if applicable.
What if no one figures out who's responsible in time?
The event will end no matter what on Day 63, in one of two ways. If you want your muse to continue investigating the phenomenon, that's fine, but it will naturally be harder to find clues after the attacks stop.
Any questions about a subject I didn't cover (which is more likely than you think) go here, while the participant list is over here at Tear's journal. Please comment there with concerns/ complaints about placement~
