WHO: Jane & Nick WHAT: Valentine’s day massacre meet up WHERE: 408, Nick's apartment. WHEN: Feb. 14, 11:30 pm. WARNINGS: It's Nick so swearing and him thinking like a killer is bound to happen.
It had been a madhouse at the restaurant so any thoughts Jane had of sneaking off early to meet up with Nick went right out the window. She couldn't complain too much about it, even if her eyes kept checking the clock on the wall as the minutes ticked by. The large number of patrons meant tips and hours both of which Jane was happy to have and had desperately needed before her neighbour Peter had gotten her the job at Jack's restaurant. Truly she liked the little restaurant but as the orders and dishes piled up by the end of the night it was starting to feel prison like. The shift that would not end finally did end at ten a clock but Jane had to stick around for another hour to help clean up before she convinced her co-worker Dawn to cover the rest of Jane’s share of the clean-up. It meant an exchange and doing Dawn’s early shift next weekend and Jane had to wonder why she was so eager to make the trade to get home in time. Nick had just asked her to hang out, it wasn’t a big deal. Why was she making such a big deal out of getting home on time?
Well, there was the fact that she hadn't seen Nick around in a while. Jane was busy with her new job and Nick...well, Nick just wasn't around as much. He was busy most likely but in her more paranoid moments Jane had to wonder if her friend was avoiding her. She hadn't seen him around the building as much and the few times she had texted or called to hang Nick was never free. Then earlier today he texted her out of the blue, claiming he was lonely of all things. Kinda the day for that I guess, Jane thought as she entered Marchen Heights. While Jane never really cared about Valentine's Day it did get some folks down and for all she knew, Nick could be one of those folks. Or maybe it's something else, a little voice whispered in the back of Jane's mind. A voice that the young woman immediately hushed up. Don't start thinking like that, she told herself during the elevator ride up to the third floor.
Jane made a quick stop to her apartment to drop off her purse, jacket and to freshen up a little. Just to make sure her breath didn’t reek and to swap her shirt for a cleaned one and black cardigan before she took the stairs up to the fourth floor. Jane lifted her hand to knock before remembering Nick's last text and tried the handle. The door slid open soundlessly and Jane poked her head inside. "Hey Nick, it's me". Stepping over the threshold, Jane closed the door carefully behind her. "Are you still awake? I know it's kind of late but I figured since I promised...um, is it too late?"
