"Oh come on, baking's not that hard", Jane argued. "As someone who comes from a long line of bakers I can assure you killing people with pastry is a lot harder than it sounds. As for fires, that's extinguishers are for". All this was said with mock seriousness but Jane had to hide her grin behind the mug. "Seriously, baking isn't as hard as people make it out to be. You just need practice, patience, and to follow the recipe. If I can bake, anyone can".
It was funny, baking was of the things Jane had been trying to get away from when she left home. It was her mother's passion and one Jane had always felt was forced on her growing up but yet since coming her she found herself doing more of it. It was relaxing and a stress reliever. Jane might not be able to make her life turn out the way she wanted but she could make a chocolate cake turn out how she wanted. It was nice having control over one thing at least.
"If you want I could teach you", she offered charitably. She paused, pursing her lips before adding with a grin, "But I'd have to charge". She looked at him to see if he got it and unfortunately added, "Like the song, you know...of course, it's not funny if I have to explain it, is it?"
