WHO: Nick and Jane WHAT: A chat and cigarette break. WHERE: Nick's apartment and fire escape outside. WHEN: Late night WARNINGS: Might have swearing and mention violence.
A cold breeze came in through the window by the fire escape, cutting through the warmth of the apartment and waking Nick up a little. He had been having a lazy evening lounging on the worn black couch for a while with his laptop on and the browser open to the Marchen Heights forum. Another strange facet of the building but a helpful one as it gave the hit man some insight into his neighbors and their lives. Originally he had started using it to keep track of his target Jane but the nosy Russian found himself mildly fascinated by some of the other residents who posted there, like the sharp resident of 703 and the maid who lived in 301, just to name a few.
It was still the resident of 308 who he kept a special eye out for most times. For business reasons of course. Slipping up and making contact might not have been the mistake Nick had feared as it was working out better than he expected. Truly there was no better way to keep track of someone than becoming integrated into their lives. With Jane that wasn't too hard to do. The young woman was too outgoing and far too trusting. All Nick had to do was ask and she was already on her way up to his apartment. He was willing to bet it would be just as easy to lure her away from the apartment if he needed to later on. 'Not tonight', Nick thought while closing the browser and setting the laptop on the coffee table. Tonight he was just interested in collecting information and see what Jane was up to. It could possibly be useful when the time came for Nick to complete his job.
That's what he kept telling himself. It couldn't be that he was interested in talking to Jane, that was simply out of the question. Nick would laugh if anyone would even suggest it but still he he kept an ear turned toward the door for any sign of her approach. Waiting.
'Where is she?' Nick's blue eyes traveled up to the clock on the wall by the kitchen. 'It doesn't take this long to get from that floor to this...wait, what is that noise?' He could hear an almost musical like clanging outside the window and breeze soon brought a familiar scent. "You've got to be kidding me", Nick chuckled as he got up from the couch and headed for the window. "When I invited you up I thought you'd be using the stairs Jane", he called out to the figure on the fire escape.
