He says he doesn't experience them and yet sometimes it seems like he does.
I replied to this in bookgirl24's comment that I don't completely believe that he fells nothing. What do the books say? I haven't read them. Does he do this "what would a normal person do?" dialogue with himself? He's a natural with the kids.
My thoughts are that either 1) he doesn't recognise that he actually feels for these people around him; or 2) Harry's code includes what is 'right behaviour' and vice versa and it is so ingrained that it comes out naturally; or 3) he has some sort of detached personality where he'll go thru the motions but not feel too deeply.
**Not sure if any of the above made sense - too much food today - my brain is mush!**
Dexter appealed to me the way Tom Ripley appealed to me but more so because of his code. Tom Ripley felt deeply for the people he killed and he killed for self-preservation not from a need to do so.
Don't know why that came up - just that I always drew some parallels between the two characters and felt that if Tom Ripley could feel, Dexter should too.
