When Remus was little, he'd informed his mum that he wanted to live in the library. All the books he could read over and over. And the children's section of his library had a lovely little area with beanbag chairs and soft rugs for reading time and wouldn't those be an alright place to sleep? He'd even discovered there was a kitchen in the back where the staff went for lunch time, which he discovered once when he'd gotten lost. So really, it seemed the perfect idea ever.
This was not what he'd had in mind.
He was doing everything he could to stay busy. Staying busy meant not facing what was happening around him. Not the whole 'almost dying and living in squalor with everyone else in the manor' thing. That wasn't that big of a deal to him. He'd lived in terrible conditions before, this was nothing compared to sleeping outside with a pack of feral werewolves. No, he was fighting to avoid the fact that somewhere in that crowd of refugees was a man who was, by all rights, Remus' own son. A son not due to be born for several more years. A son he'd create with a woman who wasn't yet his wife but would be despite him swearing he'd never marry after he'd messed things up with Emmeline. Not to mention Sirius' little prank going awry.
No, frankly, he was happier keeping busy. Gathering whatever food he could find from any kitchens available. Clearing the hallways of debris to make travel easier. Finding any supplies to make the shelter more comfortable. Whatever he could do to stay away from everything he was dealing with was not only typical Remus, it was helpful this time.
He found himself wandering the opposite side of the library, looking for books on construction. Silently, he mouthed the titles of the books as he ran his index finger along the spines. If they were going to have to keep living like this, then they'd better at least do it right. Try and make a proper shelter, even individual spaces again. And one thing Remus did really well, if not physical labor, was research.
