Her chin trembled and the tears that threatened to spill down her cheeks did what they promised. Hot, fat tears slid down her face, pooling beneath her chin to drop to soak into Sam's shirt. They couldn't move him. They couldn't get him anywhere safe.
Dean brought their hands together and Ruby wanted to fight at first, her palms were practically coated in Sam's blood. But it was Sam, so she scooted closer, her knees bumping against Sam's side as she laced her fingers with his. She lifted her other hand to quickly brush the tears away, getting streaks of blood on her face for her effort. Giving him a watery smile, Ruby kept her eyes on Sam's face.
"You're gonna make it out of here, Sam. You have to. Do you want to know why?" Ruby paused, wetting her lips. "Because you and me, we're going to go on a date. A real date. Not just a lunch break when there's a lull between the lunch and dinner rushes. A real date. You're gonna wear a nice jacket, I'll get dressed up. We'll go to a restaurant with menus that aren't covered in plastic."
Ruby's chin trembled as she tightened her hand on his. "So, you have something to look forward to now, we've got a date."
