"Good!" He paused to smile at her before continuing to clean. His feet were really uncomfortable in the cold, soaked socks but he pushed that aside for now. One thing at a time. Clean up so the area is safer, coax Ellie back by the fire, get a blanket or two maybe since they both were going to be colder. It was a fairly solid plan.
He'd set a personal record for how long he could be calm and quiet if he needed to. Now with the glass cleared and him moving on to the water he started to feel ... guilty. He should've known, or at least suspected, that it was worse than Ellie made it seem since she returned. At least he could be around for her all night, and make a show of protecting her against nightmares. It might get a laugh out of her.
