He looked up at her, dark eyes sweeping over her face, trying to see if she is lying to him. Trying to see if she is attempting to make things softer on him. She met his gaze without looking away, that small smile on her lips and her hands on his knees.
He sighed, running one hand through his dark, wavy hair. "I don't know, Maria. I obviously did something wrong - made him feel that he wasn't wanted. I know I might have been hard on him, but did he have no happy memories of his childhood? Did I do nothing that a father should?" He looked at her, his lips pursuing a little.
