Tanner was being quiet now and studying Keith’s facial expressions and body language; the big guy seemed a tad uncomfortable. Not so much that anyone sitting in the restaurant would notice, but Tanner noticed, because he’d been paying such close attention to Keith’s normal relaxed demeanor. It was strange; now that his new friend had opened up to him and essentially come out, Tanner felt more at ease to look at him without worrying he’d be caught. He smiled to himself, thinking, just hours ago, he couldn’t imagine ever sitting across from such a hot guy and boldly discussing his dating preferences, while checking the guy out.
With a chuckle, Tanner admitted, “We are eerily alike, Keith. I will find a woman attractive maybe once in a blue moon, y’know?”, he shrugged, “Usually, it’s an actress or something”, he leaned forward and whispered, “I once had a little crush on Angelina Jolie…not sure if it was the lips or the husband”, he grinned. Tanner was all ears when Keith mentioned dating a few men. He didn’t want to push it, but he was so curious, “Keith…”, he began softly, “…I don’t want to pry but, what’s it like to date a man?”. When he asked about dating, it implied so many things, but he would take whatever Keith offered. Tanner wondered what the men were liked that Keith dated. They were probably big, muscular jocks…popular and drop dead gorgeous, the slender teen mused, a bit jealously, Keith is being so sweet to me, but that’s because he’s a great guy. No way he’d go for me as boyfriend material.
After the waitress left, Tanner thought about Keith’s question, “Well, being this close to the school, I’m sure that two guys talking about guys is probably almost normal compared to some of the students that stop in, right?”. The blond teen smiled, thinking how cute Keith looked nibbling on the coconut crusted prawn; then he blushed a little thinking how silly he was being. The next question his new roommate asked was completely unexpected; unexpected and somewhat personal…boy, he wished he had asked it first! “Oh, wow…that’s a good question”, Tanner stalled for a moment to get his head together and take a big swallow of his milk; he wiped his mouth off with his napkin, cleared his throat and looked directly into Keith’s amazing eyes, “Well, you’re right, I’ve never dated, but I have daydreamed and crushed on other boys, real and even movie or tv characters. I’m not stuck to one type physically, you know, aesthetically; I like different things on different people. A guy doesn’t have to be what everyone thinks is Hollywood handsome to attract me. What attracts me most is a kind heart…”, he looked down at the table and began to blush a little as he revealed himself, “…and someone who is smart and fun and someone who has a sense of responsibility…ahem…yeah, that would be what attracts me”. Tanner looked across the restaurant and saw the waitress bringing their steaks; he quickly added, “Oh , and Keith? I truly feel sorry for the men who had you and lost you because they couldn’t cope with your study habits. They’ll never come close to regaining what they lost”.
Once the waitress had placed their steaks on the table, and Tanner had requested another milk, the blond teen asked, “Those guys you dated, were they your type, Keith? What kind of guy are you attracted too?”. He smiled as he started cutting his steak, “Turnabout is fair play!”.
