There was no going back, there was no undoing the history that Beth and Desmond already shared. No matter how short lived Desmond felt like a kit tied to her wrist and flying high in the sky, she turned her gaze in his direction as he began to walk away and for the first time ever time seemed to stand still. The parallel rotation stopped and the random run in's that they shared would quit just as she let him walk out of her life, the kit string that remained tethered to her broke free with each step that he took.
She wanted to get to her feet and follow after him but that would be a selfish move, she could no longer cause him pain, he deserved to be free, he deserved to make friends with others who would not leave him dreading every encounter. But she couldn't leave it at that, his walking away.
"Hey Desmond..." Beth called out to him as she closed the distance between them and took hold of his wrist, "I'm sorry I hurt you, but before you walk away just please just promise me that you won't ever build a wall around yourself, you're capable of so much joy if you just keep your heart open."
Beth had no right to give advice and though she knew that she was most likely creating even more agony for him she had to speak her mind, have one final say. "And if you ever do want a friend you know where I'll be..." She let her words trail before slipping her hand from his wrist to let him step away once more and when the time drew out longer than it actually Beth knew that it was her time to walk away before she let her mouth get her into trouble or worsen his pain.
