There was grief and sorrow there, hidden deep in those blue eyes of his and for some reason the song by Willie Nelson rolled through her mind, Blue Eyes Crying. It might not have held true to the situation at hand but she sighed anyway, thinking of when she'd seen the blood on his gloved hands, his tears were blood... the saddest tears imaginable. And with his letter pressed between her palms Beth sat down beside him on the empty bench.
She'd never forget him, no matter how much he wished to disappear from her life and her from his, she'd always think of him and recall the depths of his blue eyes, the tormented misery that he carried with him on those strong shoulders of his and as she wished to reach for his hand to comfort him, she knew that she could not. She wasn't his to act in such a way and she sighed, her own blue eyes lost as they stared down at the morning dew of the grass that remained in the shade of a nearby tree, "I'm sorry..." She whispered to him, dreaming of a day when she might be able to make amends for the hurt that she'd caused him by simply coming into his life and meeting him on that fateful day.
Her heart sank, there was nothing left to say or do here. He was right, her heart belonged to another, she wanted to ask how he'd grown so attached to her with barely speaking to her, but she knew in her heart that such a connection were possible, she'd witnessed it only once before, but it was possible, after all she herself could not deny the intense draw that he had to her and vise versa, it was there whether she wished to acknowledge it. She pushed her hands into her hair as she leaned forward finally and sat in silence with him, they were inches apart but to her human heart and mind he felt miles away, out of reach, and she could no longer save him. She licked her lips and looked to the opposite side of the campus, but her thoughts clung to the man beside her. Beth wasn't ready to let him go. No one had ever denied her friendship before. She'd also never known someone for such a short amount of time without feeling truly bound to that person, concerned more for their well being than her own, and she wanted to ask him how he were capable of such a thing, but instead she continued to sit in silence, her shoulders slumped forehead and her heart breaking for the already broken man beside her, all the while her thoughts screaming THIS ISN'T FAIR!!! I JUST WANT TO FIX YOUR SHATTERED HEART AND SOUL!! I JUST WANT TO SAVE YOU!
((This song seems fitting for the situation between them, from his point of view, and since you aren't online I can't send it to you, but I really want you to hear this one!))
