"I'm sure he was wonderful." She smiled at the thought of overprotective parents. Hers were very relaxed, they had to be with so many children, she supposed. But were any of those children in danger, she knew that all of her parents would be a terrible thing to come up against. "There are some friendly people here. But there are also those you should watch out for. There are good and bad to every species. Just remember that."
She laughed softly and nodded. "Sounds like a deal." Marie looked around with Kaydence and then shook her head. "No, sometimes it is hard to tell, but sometimes it's easy. You won't find any vampires running around during the day, but they are abundant at night. The giants and centaurs are easy to spot, but mermaids, nymphs, dryads, naiads and others of those types are difficult to spot right off. Sometimes there are markers, though. Like your feathers and an elf's ears."
It was a little strange to have a length of silence while they ate, but Marie wasn't about to complain. It was a nice reprieve. "It seems so." Marie couldn't say exactly why, and maybe it was just because she was older than the other, but she felt a little motherly toward her. Getting lost had helped her cause a bit, probably.
"I'm working tomorrow. Noon to nine at Matilda's Ice Cream Parlour. Try-outs are at seven, right? I should be able to be there before I have to go to work." She scooped some soup into her mouth and then liberally sprinkled the crackers over the surface before mixing them in. "I think they have cookbooks in the library you can check out. Then you could see which books you like before you go buy them. It sounds like you'll be busy. You're probably going to need a good night's sleep, especially for try-outs tomorrow." She advised before putting another spoonful of soup into her mouth.
