There was a single moment when he looked into her eyes and everything felt like it tightened. Her cheeks reddened, she was sure, and it became a little harder to breathe. She let herself gaze into his crystal eyes and so many things happened at once that it was difficult to tell one thing from the next. She could envision everything though, almost literally feeling his strong hands pressed against her bare back as he pulls her chest against his. A wave of heat rolled quickly across her flesh and she watched what happened in her thoughts. She hung her head back, hair flowing down her spine. She trusted him to kiss the line of her arched neck, her arms wrapped around his.
Her body would be covered in sweat as the hand he hooked at the small of her back swung her sideways so he could lay her against silk sheets. She would drag manicured nails along his muscular back and kiss him. He could control every part of her body but no because of what he was, but who. Her heart raced but she couldn't be sure if it was just in her dreams, or if the sensation was real. She rose against his chest, drawing fingers down his muscled arms that were so strong that they could hold her in safety just as easily in seduction.
The heat still coursed through her veins when she would finally lay still beside his body, sweat cooling on her flesh and his fingers running lazily over her cheek, just as she could feel it now.
It felt as though those moments had actually occurred. She was breathless and full of a desire that she hadn't had before. Raina remained still as he admitted to wanting her blood. It took a moment to realize that based on his story and his desire for human blood, he had been put in that position before. She couldn't imagine the agony it must have caused, and the pain he had to live with. She wondered if he had learned how to block out the scent of blood from the people around him, or did he always smell it. Was he able to block out the beating, or was it always there like a drum in his ears, reminding him of what he could do and how easy it would be to give in and alleviate that hunger?
"Desmond.." She spoke his name like a broken prayer as she moved her hand up. But her fingertips just barely brushed his hand when he stepped away and went to his shirt that he pulled on silently. She didn't move towards him, at first, but neither did she move away. When he expressed his intention to leave, it was like a spring was put in her boots that had her jumping to move towards him without her fully realizing she'd taken that first step by the time she was close to him. "Don't say that. Please."
Raina stopped only a few feet away from him. Despite the feelings she had when he was so close to her, it was only her immature fear that kept her from feeling it when he was farther from her. Was it possible that the allure he carried, that pulled her close, wasn't based on him being a dhampir? Before she'd even known, before they were so close, she'd been interested in him. He wasn't the same as others that she had met. He had awakened her mind, and that wasn't something you came across every day. At least she hadn't.
