Raina had the option to give away that virtue a long time ago. She had almost given in to it too. The boy had been sweet to her, always kind to her parents. He was naturally handsome and had an ease about him that made her feel right at home. She had been so infatuated by him that she hadn't thought much about the future, only have rolling around in every single moment the two of them could have had together. He'd known what she was and was never cruel about it. He'd accepted it and took her on dates to the lake side for midnight picnics. They would talk for hours as they laid together. She had been sure it was love. Perhaps, at some level it was. Looking back upon it, she felt like she had hardly known him, despite how much they spoke. He mostly asked her questions about herself, and she had been happy to indulge. It was during one of those late nights that had tripped and cut herself on a rock near their campsite.
It was the smell of blood that had most attracted him. She'd backed into the water but he continued towards her. Her legs had just completely turned back to tail, and she was about to swim off, but he had been fast. He dove and his fangs dug into the scales. It was simple luck that a group of college kids had been out drinking beer and fishing, and had heard all the racket. Her boyfriend, who she had just learned was a vampire, hesitated with the scent of the humans. She was able to make her escape then. Thanks to rapid healing, the wound did not bleed for long, but it left a nice scar on her.
The whole experience kind of put a damper on her wanting to give herself to anyone. At least not until she was in love, and positive he didn't want to take a bite out of her.
When she looked up, she saw how close he was and tried to think of something to say. She moved her lips like words would come out if she at least managed the motion part but nothing came. She was hypnotized. Her mind went blank for a moment and it felt like the whole world shifted under her. With what they had been talking about, and the memory that was still fresh in her mind, she shouldn't have been able to swoon so easily. A small nod finally managed to move her head as she found herself mesmerized. "I'm.." She's what? She couldn't think to even answer that. Instead, her voice lowered and she whispered, "Your.." Everything about him was alluring in a way she hadn't known before. It was probably out of line and had she been in her right frame of mind, she would have smacked herself for doing this. She found herself reaching her fingers up slowly until the tips just barely brushed along his strong jawline. The skin was smoothed and seemingly untouched. Her body gave a small shake with a chill she hadn't expected as the racing in her chest quickened. "I'm sorry, I just.. I've been so curious. About how you.. feel." When she stared into those bottomless pools though, she was easily lost. She knew earlier. There was just something special about his eyes.
