The girl had something very beautiful about her and it wasn't just the way she looked, which was admittedly very nice. No, there was something a little deeper. It was a feeling she got around her. Like the way you feel when you're in the arms of someone you know is going to protect it. It was a golden shine and it came from inside her. It was a little shocking for Raina to see, and feel, because she hadn't experienced that before. At least not when she was under the waters. Even the nicest had somewhat cold hearts. Her mother had once told her that's what happens to mermaids who stay in the seas too long without going above the tides.
She made a little hop of excitement when the girl who identified herself as Beth told her she was indeed a human. "I knew it. I totally knew it!" Raina hooked her arm in Beth's and gave her a little insisting tug. "Let's go up to my room!" She said, while thoughts of painting nails and talking about boys flashed in her head. Having spent so much time on land, she'd enjoyed a few human traditions of girlhood, this being one of them. "I'll paint your nails!" As they started to walk back towards the building, she smirked, "Besides, it's about to start raining again." She told her, "And it'll be such a mess if I'm caught out in it."
At the compliment of her hair, Raina instinctually looked towards the closest reflective surface. "Thanks!" She said happily, brushing her fingers through her hair. She stopped just feet away from the door and looked in the window, starting to play with her hair.
