Izzy shook her head and smiled at Gideon's enthusiasm for the subject matter. She hoped that most of the students who came to Alden were prepared for the college level classes they would be taking. College was not just a continuation of high school as many seemed to believe. But it was classes like Gideon's which would wake them to the realities of university if they weren't sure before.
She watched him head for the fridge and then shook her head, "No, I can't say I have heard of the brand." But then Izzy didn't eat a lot of chocolate, either. Sweets weren't really her thing. She ate them on occasion, but it was rare. "I'll take the Intense Dark Chocolate." It sounded less sweet than the others and a little more decadent. She took the bar from him and opened the wrapper, sliding her fingernails beneath the folds and pulling them open.
She glanced over at him as he asked about her reaction to the book. "It was the title. I haven't read it." She'd read a lot of books in her life. There was often nothing else to do, especially if she was feeling blocked creatively. She'd lived a long life, but she had a penchant for cheap romance novels and contemporary fiction. She was not a feminist, not by a long shot. She was an individualist. She believed that a person was their own and should do what they wished, regardless of constraints and laws. But then, she'd been afforded that ability because of what she was. Many humans and some supernaturals didn't have that luxury.
She shrugged at his next inquiry. "There is often a special spark that excites me, I must admit. But more often than not my students are taking art classes as electives for other majors, not because they enjoy art. There are those, the ones with art majors, who are excited and exciting because of their passion for improvement. Those ones are the ones with the raw, natural talent that has already cemented itself as a unique part of their work." She licked her lips and broke off a piece of the chocolate bar.
It was bittersweet and was actually very delicious. She smiled her appreciation at Gideon as she swallowed and then washed it down with a sip of her coffee. "What about your students, Gideon? Do you feel that excitement, that spark?"
