The third word he would have used to describe her would have been polite or possibly delicate. Perhaps she was shy. Xan liked to shake hands with people. Sometimes he could get a feel for a person based on their handshake. For the most part, he liked to give a strong, warm grip without crushing the other person.
There was the barest flash of emotion emanating from her. Xan hadn't been actively looking for it, so the feeling was obscure, vague. It had almost felt like...apprehension? Had he shook her hand too hard? Hurt her in any way?
After regaining his seat and drink, he returned the easy smile, "It was no problem."
It had been just a tad over a month since his arrival to the University and he had finally settled into a routine. He wasn't quite used to talking to the other students though. Unlike the vast majority of them, he had only found out his true nature a couple of years ago, and even then, he had known nothing about his kind. If he was to be frank with himself though, he still didn't know much about Angels or Nephilims.
"Actually I'm a freshmen. I took a couple of years off after high school, working to save money for university," he replied. "I decided to start off with a light work load in the summer, to try to get used to this new lifestyle before the large influx of new Fall semester students arrive."
His lips quirked up in a wry grin. "To tell the truth, I've been here over a month and I still get lost. In fact, this is the first time I've been to this coffee shop. I figure I won't be able to find it again tomorrow...So-er-what are you taking here?"
Mentally smacking himself, the brunet told his ever-so-eloquent self to shape up. Years as a loner was clearly affecting his speech pattern and manners. Xan was sure he was coming off as awkward and nervous.
