Tobias planted his feet, unable in that moment to resist her direct request.
"There is nothing to be done," and he paused, looking from her hand to her face, "Beth," he said as he reached forward and took her offer. He wrapped his hand about hers tenativly, and then some slight surprise showed on his face as he realized how solid and warm she felt. He was confused, knowing he should just flee this entire complication, get changed and get back on course, to class and to learn. But here was an opportunity to learn about humans from a human, a very pretty one at that.
"My name is Tobias," and he paused, frowning slightly, "Yes, Beth, I will allow you to purchase me another meal. But another time? I really must go and change," he said, releasing her hand and looking down at his own soiled clothes, "Please, excuse me," he said, and with that he did step back and turn to leave.
All the way back to Naur, Tobias's mind went over what had transpired. She had seemed genie like in some ways, and yet was clearly, very solidly human. He knew she had caught the brunt of his displeasure and wondered how resilient she was to such confrontations. She looked fragile to him, yet seemed she seemed determined to set things right. He made a decision then to seek her out, and speak with her more, or at the very least, study her more.
