He was finding everything rather intriguing, as much as he hated to admit it to himself. The room was not half as bad as he thought. The other people in the house seemed nice enough, when he'd had a chance to pass them by. After his classes today, his plan was to get out of his room and go sit in the open room and try to strike up a conversation with someone. That was the whole reason he was here after all, to interact and learn more about other beings.
He had selected an odd assortment of foods, some he recognized and some he did not. He had found tea; that had been a staple and there was plenty of sugar about, so he felt like he could survive on just about anything else with it. The fruits were similar but there were others that were strange and exotic to him. He had put a fragrant orange ball on his plate after seeing another student pick on. He'd really followed, and mimicked the selections he'd seen. Eggs were safe as well; they had those there. He stayed away from the meats for the time being; he just didn't think they smelled all that good when he moved by the serving woman, picking up large greasy chunks of them with tongs.
Some of the people were getting bowls and boxes of cereal. Some were getting baked goods of various shapes. Tobias took some of each, and some other things that he wasn't too sure about. He took all of it up to the register, and handed over the card he'd been given. She nodded at him and he didn't know if he should respond or not so he just moved on, looking for an empty table. He found one and sat, facing the center of the dining hall, watching the others move about before he tried to tackle some of his food. He found the sugar on the table and added a healthy dose to the black tea bag he had soaking. He gave a sigh and picked up the round ball, smelling it and recognizing its scent even if it was the wrong color.
