Desmond desperately wished for the sun rise to come. He wished for the rays of the sun to strip him of the powers that he couldn't shut off, the ones that made it abundantly clear that Raina was confused and in pain. He could hear the way that her heart beat quickened as he'd moved her and how her breath had stilled in her throat at the one word that he had uttered to her. He could tell that she was confused, he could tell that the confusion was steadily turning into hurt. It was as if the universe itself was conspiring to rob him even of this moment of solidarity to selfishly feel for just himself. He gripped his legs a bit tighter as he closed his eyes and desperately tried to shut it out, shut out the smell of sex surrounding them, mixed with blood... shut out the scent of her hormones which had been going crazy up until a few moments ago.
He could hear the sound of the fabric moving against her skin as she pulled on her shirt, and he breathed out slowly, opening his eyes to stare at the grass, his mind drawing back to that awful night, the last time that the beast had really been truly... free. He could still feel the cold of the iron cutting into his wrists and he rubbed them instinctively as he stared out into the night and started to rock lightly, shaking his head to try to get the images that were flowing through his minds eye out of them. He wasn't back there... he was in control... he could control himself still. If he couldn't control himself... if he couldn't keep control of himself... then he needed to leave this place... he needed to go somewhere where the world would be safe from him.
That or he needed to kill himself outright.
He heard her words and he scowled slightly, his face starting to twitch as he forced himself to swallow and close his eyes again. When she reached out to cross the distance between the two of them she would feel her hand stop against something, as if there were a piece of glass between them, an invisible wall, a boundary that she couldn't cross. Desmond had not advertised the fact that he had telekinesis, in fact of all of the abilities that he'd used on campus since arriving, it was the one that he used the least. But now he did it without even thinking about it, a mere side thought in the back of his mind. Raina would not touch him, she would not be able to touch him again tonight. He would not allow that much. So even if she were to pound against the air itself, her hand would always stay a few inches from actually touching him....
