After she regained control of her head when it had swum awkwardly for a moment, she changed the subject, but not before she caught the raised eyebrow the dhampir shot toward her. Had she behaved strangely or had something else passed between them? Dismissing it entirely as nothing could prove to be a mistake, so she made a point of being more alert.
Then she slipped a little closer to him, their knees touching, and his hand graced her leg again. When he leaned toward her a little, she found herself reciprocating the action so their faces were very near, mere inches away. “Well, there are plenty of appealing heat sources, but right now, you’re doing an okay job of keeping the evening chill away.” The truth was that her body heat alone was enough to keep the chill away, for it was a bit higher than a lot of other body heats. Hell, her body heat had a tendency of being hotter than most males’, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t appreciate another’s warmth to keep her extra comfortable. The way he spoke made her hesitate before speaking again. “Have you lived the last century in the land of Fae or something?” She really was starting to rethink his comments about being terrible with computers. With how much he seemed to know about theatre, he should have known that the big difference between a musical and an opera was that musicals had spoken words while operas didn’t. Thus, modern operas would exist, and musicals would be something else entirely. Musicals as they currently were happened to be pretty different from what musical theatre once was… a really long time ago…
As far as Maya was concerned, the land of Fae and the kingdom of Djinn were the only two worlds found on Earth that weren’t so much a part of Earth as much as they were alternate planes of existence, and, though the jinni had never been to either one, it was fairly well known that the cultures were vastly different and that time didn’t run the same way in those places as it did in the rest of the world.
“It’s a rare treat that I’ve been able to speak with a man like you who is both handsome and intelligent.” Her hand moved to gently squeeze his wrist as she spoke, and she moved her thigh just a little to make him more aware of how close they were.
