Jia Li frowned when he admitted there had been several misplayed notes within his song, and she shook her head. “I’m not a music major, but I do think you’re being too hard on yourself. Everyone makes mistakes. I’m sure with more practice, you’ll get to point where even you won’t hear any mistakes in your mistake. Personally, I didn’t hear any, but I don’t think I was able to listen to the entire song.”
A small smile returned to her full lips when he said he improvised the song he’d played. “That’s really amazing. It seems like it would take a lot of skill to just play something randomly without reading the music first. Then again, I’m not really musically inclined. I’m a dancer.” Improvising dance movements was incredibly easy for her. Maybe it was the same sort of thing for musicians. Improvisation in one’s own skill set would naturally be easier than improvising something in another medium.
Jia Li’s smile broadened. “Yes. I really did like it. It was beautiful.” She moved closer to where he was sitting until she was close enough to offer her hand. “I’m Jia.” Now that she was closer, she thought he looked a little familiar, but she knew she’d never taken any classes with him. The dryad figured maybe she’d just seen him around campus or something. There was also the possibility that there were people who looked similar to him. “Are you new to Alden, or have you been here a while?” That should enable her to clarify.
