"She was stabbed last night. I found her at the brink of death... and I did something which would have been forbidden centuries ago... I forced my blood upon her. It is a violation do it... even if she would have died without it. She will live an unnaturally long life now... and she will be drawn to me, despite her best intentions to the contrary. I told you before that the blood makes it so that our feelings are magnified.. but in humans it is like something headier than wine, more powerful than any drug I have ever known. It can turn some into addicts, and others it simply makes obsessed with it. Eventually given enough time, if she does not drink from me again she will recover... but..."
He closed his eyes softly. "Dhampirs cannot drink from a mortal without... consequences. So after I gave her my blood... I stayed with her for fear she still might die... when she woke up she came to me... and the hunger... was strong enough that I faultered." He said softly. "I touched her... as a man touches a woman. I nearly drank from her... nearly... nearly gave into my hunger in other ways." he breathed in softly. "You seem to think I am running from something, Raina... but you do not understand the razors edge that I balance upon, and how very easy it is to tip to one side or another and cut myself as I fall. You seem to think that I am better than the vampire that hurt you... but I am not... the same blood runs through my veins... the same weaknesses live inside of me as well..." he said softly.
