Even among Earthlings whose emotions often compromised their logical skills and general intelligence, it seemed a little strange that this angel would have lived in the United States for forty years without really knowing the language very well. Then again, there were plenty of people who emigrated from foreign countries who only communicated with those who also spoke their language. As long as they had someone to translate for them when it counted, they wouldn’t have to actually learn the language. It was the lazy way about things, and Dhivael couldn’t understand someone not wanting to further their intelligence. Of course, the angel who was her new dorm companion had studied the English language, and she seemed to be fluent. Maybe she had only learned it within the last few years?
However, she did say new words were more difficult to pronounce. Perhaps because Rihannsu was not a language of Earth, she reverted merely to her native tongue’s pronunciations to find a way around it. “That is understandable, for my name stems from a language that was not created on this planet.”
It really didn’t seem to matter as much. What did matter was that Yanagi was far older than Dhivael. That meant she must have a great deal of life experience, and she could perhaps teach the Rihan a thing or two. “Have you ever been anywhere on Earth other than Japan and the United States?”
Only four… That was more than Dhivael even had, but it wasn’t a particularly large number of boxes. The size of the boxes would have to be taken into account, too, but if there were four boxes left and two females to do the deed, that meant there would likely be at least one less trip back and forth. Thus, her purpose in helping would be accomplished.
“Few have. Earth’s technological levels are not advanced enough to begin space travel to find sentient life on other planets, and few of my people have come to this planet. I am sure other extraterrestrials from different solar systems have come to this planet, but it is likely more rare than Rihannsu arriving and mingling.” Not all of those who had traveled to Earth interacted as readily with Earthlings as Dhivael. She was here to learn about the people and their emotions. Most of her people were there to study the physiological connections between the two species. “I am able to tell you only those things about my home planet that will not violate the non-interference policy I have sworn to uphold. My culture is up for discussion, but technology is not. However, I am interested in your race. I have seen other angels, but I have only met one before you, and he became angry with me at one point for reasons of which I am not aware though I do believe it had something to do with my not immediately conforming to his belief systems. He would not speak with me after that.”
When they entered the dorm, Dhivael’s eyes took a quick observation of the boxes that Yanagi had left to transfer to their shared dorm. She did not say that she could take both at once. Instead, she carefully lifted them, one at a time to test their weight. It was never good to make a statement without proper analysis on the subject. Then, she proceeded to gently place the lighter of the two on top of the heavier one before she lifted them both. “They are not a problem for me.”
