“My name is pronounced as ‘DEE-vayl.’” The Rihan corrected the angel though there was no reproach in her voice. She placed an emphasis on the first syllable of her name, and the ‘d’ sound was breathier than a normal ‘d’ in the English alphabet would be. “Are you a native of Japan?” English wasn’t Dhivael’s only known Earthling language. She’d learned several others before arriving, and Japanese was one of them. The way the angel mispronounced the Rihan’s name suggested Japanese would be her native tongue, and the other’s name suggest a similar origin though that did not necessarily mean much in the United States.
“I will assist you with your belongings.” It wasn’t an offer so much as a statement. Dhivael saw nothing wrong with inviting herself to a task. It would be a chance to get to know her new dorm companion, and the deed would be accomplished more quickly with help. Though she was very thin, she was strong. She was not as strong as a human male might be, but she was decidedly stronger than a human female of the same size may have been.
“That is all right. We can share my key until you have exchanged yours.” It seemed strange to Dhivael that someone would have separate dorms for summer and fall terms. It seemed much more efficient to simply remain in the same one for the full year. Because the extraterrestrial was going to live on campus until she graduated, it made more sense to stay in the same room year-around.
“The room I have chosen for myself is the one on the right.” The doors were obscured by the hallway that led to the bathroom, so she couldn’t simply motion toward it. “That leaves the left-most room as yours.”
Dhivael slipped her key into the pocket of her black slacks, and she slipped on her shoes, waiting for Yanagi to exit so she could follow.
