Dhivael ir-Elehu t’Vrenak had a few things spread over the desk in her dorm room. The door was closed because she had her ohrain visible, and she had heard she was to receive a new dorm mate soon. The ohrain was a computerized journal device she used to log her observations, hypotheses, and her conclusions where her studies were concerned. It was far more advanced than anything on Earth, and her superiors had permitted her to keep it so long as she kept it hidden. An Earthling even seeing it could be a direct violation of the non-interference policy the Rihannsu kept while on Earth.
The items were of course her ohrain, but she also had a couple of DVD’s laid on the surface in chronological order. It was far from half-hazard. Each item had the exact amount of space between it and the next item, and it was all sitting centered but at the edge in front of her laptop. The Rihan debated which one she should watch, and she documented her decision in her ohrain along with the reasoning behind such a decision. This was a part of her work to attempt to understand humor.
Professor Gideon Whyte had given her a list of things she should watch in order to better understand Earthling humor, and he wanted to know what her thoughts on the matter were the next time they saw one another. She would log her thoughts in her ohrain and transfer them to her laptop in order to compile a comprehensive essay on the matter.
She had already completed his first assignment to her concerning chronobiology, but she had not printed it to date. Dhivael noticed that paper was a precious resource, but also had the tendency of decaying more quickly, so she wanted to wait until the last possible moment to print the pages of her work to give to Professor Whyte. It was a far less efficient way that directly transferring the pages to his computer, but this was the way all Professors seemed to prefer.
Just as she inserted a disc into her laptop, her ears detected the sound of a soft knocking sound. Obviously, it had to be the door to the dorm itself, but it gave her momentary pause. She returned the disc to its case for later use, closed the disc drive, and lifted her ohrain from its position on her desk. Moving to her shelving unit, she placed her fingertips gently against the wooden side, feeling a burst of energy move through her as a seam began to appear. Half a second later, she was able to pull aside this newly made door and insert the thin computer into the hollow space that she had created when she had first arrived. Pressing the panel back against the side of the shelving unit, it only took a moment before the seam disappeared altogether.
It always felt satisfactory to use her ability to manipulate matter, though this was probably one of the simplest manners in which to do it. She wasn’t exactly changing the molecular structure from one thing to another, but she did force it to move and expand until it appeared how she wanted it to be. When she’d finished, there was no sign that anything was off with the shelving unit. Dhivael had no need to mark the position of the minute, hollow space; she simply retained the location in her memory.
All in all, it took only seconds, and she opened her bedroom door to exit, closing it behind her before she moved to the main entrance. When she opened it, she found a female Earthling of seemingly Asian descent carrying a box. Wings protruded from the young woman’s back, marking her as having angelic descent. Her face was familiar, and the angel’s name entered her mind.
“You must be Yanagi Moritonde. I was told you would be my dorm companion for this year.” Dhivael greeted her, but it wasn’t exactly warm. It was simply a statement of fact. The Rihan moved aside to allow the woman to enter.
“Do you require assistance, or is this all you have?” She asked the female, referring to the box. Her eyes looked just outside the dorm into the hall, but she did not spot any other personal belongings or boxes.
