True Love Strikes Once
Who: Xan and Carly, now with more Yanagi!
What: Carly falls in love with a motorcycle and Xan meets a crazy person. Then Yanagi gets run over.
When: Late afternoon/early evening
Where: Parking lot, then the bookstore.
Rating: To be safe, PG-13 for swearing because Carly's a pottymouth. Also book abuse.
Status: Complete!
Everything sucked. Carly had decided this a while ago. Exactly when, she wasn't sure. It was sometime between her boss yelling at her for forgetting about a high-paying job and having to lug her enormous flatscreen TV into her new college dorm. Maybe it was the exact moment she unplugged the television from her crappy hole-in-the-wall apartment with the peeling paint and rat problem, because it was then that she realized she wasn't ever going back. Her life before, the life of partying until 8 AM in the spilled blood of her most recent hit, was going to end. She was a college student now.
And she was quite unhappy about this.
She had only been at Alden for a day, and Carly decided she hated it. You had to do homework, you had to listen to teachers - what the hell did they know, anyway? - and you had to actually listen when people talked to you. This was a stupid waste of time, and for what? Even Yanagi's reassurances didn't help. This place was worse than prison, and she knew - she had been there before.
Her only saving grace had come when she was wandering about the campus with neither rhyme nor reason, trying to find a way to amuse herself. The sun was low in the sky, meaning that she was only itching slightly. She had slopped SPF 100 sunscreen on her face and ears, even daubing it below the reach of her turtleneck just to be safe. A pair of dark sunglasses protected her sensitive eyes. If Alden hadn't been a hotspot for supernatural activity, she probably would have looked strange in her neck-to-toe attire in this heat, wearing sunglasses as the sun set. But nobody spared a second glance for her. She liked that, a bit. Nobody knew her enough to run screaming when she approached.
As she was wandering, she came across love at first sight. It hit her like a lightning bolt, singing her skin and frying her brain. For several seconds, she just stared at the object of her affections, slack-jawed and numb. This was what it felt like to be complete. This was what it felt like to be whole.
She texted Yanagi immediately, telling her of her new love. When the angel asked about it, Carly described the lucky lover - a handsome motorcycle parked on campus. She promised that Yanagi would get to meet it as soon as she carried it back to the dorms, but the angel stopped her. She said it was "wrong" to take it. Carly was confused by this. After several minutes of back-and-forth texting, the angel finally convinced the vampire not to walk off with the motorcycle. So Carly decided to embark on the next best course of action.
She'd wait for the owner to arrive.
And so that is how Carly came to sit on the motorcycle, straddling its leather seat, waiting for some poor shmuck to come along and ultimately surrender it to her. She hoped the sonuvabitch would be fast - she wanted to take this baby on a joyride.
