Being on her own was just fine for Carly. Gripping the handles, she leaned forward against his back to keep from being thrown back by the biting wind as it hissed past them.
The sensation of moving so quickly was enthralling. She let out a cheerful whoop of delight that was quickly carried away, whisked off by the wind that consumed them. Her mouth was stretched into a permanent grin as they sped along the road. Though it was cool, she was safely buried against Xan's back, leaning further against him for warmth the longer they drove.
It was times like this when the world stretched out for a thousand miles and then collapsed upon itself. She loved the feeling. She could pretend that she was stuck inside that little collapse, smooshed and crushed like the horizon. All those trees tumbled into themselves amidst a thousand cracking splinters, and she was in the center of it, smashed into soft oblivion.
