Shy creature that she was, Marie was well practiced at focusing only on her immediate company. She didn't know others were staring at them, and she didn't really care to know. It would just make her clam up and feel uncomfortable. The less she knew, the better. She smiled at Whip and listened while he dictated his order to the waiter. She grinned when the waiter had to fish his pad of paper out of his pocket and write it all down.
She turned back to Whip and shook her head. "Are you really going to eat all that?" It wouldn't surprise her, to be honest, but it also wouldn't surprise her if he ordered in excess just because he could. As he leaned forward on the table, she leaned back a little. It wasn't that she didn't want to be close, she was just getting settled for talking about her life. He seemed to genuinely want to know. She pressed her back against the chair and settled her hands in her lap.
"What does anyone do in the sea?" She laughed softly and shrugged. "We swim, of course. We also fish and play games. We explore and discover." She shrugged again. A selkie really did lead a very simple life. "Really, it was an ordinary upbringing. What about yours? I imagine it was a little more exciting than mine."
