"That seems to be the logical way to go about things." She said nodding to herself as she watched the girl with a bemused expression upon her face. "Well as a professor here I must say that I would like to be any help I can be."
"I am certain your studies will benefit your people as well. You seem like a bright young girl, with many ideas and determined to find your answers." She said as she nodded in agreement with the girl.
"You know many today would disagree with you. People are starting to believe a book is the thing of the past. Computers with saved data files as going to replace. Or in some ways already have. But this fox could never trade my volumes in. There is something about the touch and smell of a book, that a computer could never replace." She told the girl. "Plus computers are not safe from some supernatural magics."
"Actually you have proven the point I was going to make. If you find enough records about a subject. Even with the... biases, you can gleam truth from what they say. As long as you know what biases the writer would have, and you have sufficient data from different points of view."
She paused and watched the girl for a moment as she thought about what she was going to say. "This is my first real conversation as a teacher. So do forgive me if my ways are not polished. But I have never been one to be able to hold my tongue when a person needs something obvious pointed out to them. You have obvious... pre-judgments about all earthlings. It seems to me that before you even stepped on our planet you had decided in your mind the way things would be. Preconceptions are one of the worst enemies to any anthropologist, to any scholar really. I would suggest that you work on getting rid of them. So that your data is not corrupted by them."
"Exactly." She said as if that was what she was saying before. "But those instincts do play a part in how the person thinks. As I do not understand many choices bipeds make. I have determined my mind works differently then theirs." She said with a shrug. "It is a weakness, but as far as I know none of my kind of been cut up and studied. Or at least I have not been given the data from such a study, I could not tell you what dictates the how the weakness presents its self. I do not like to state things as fact when I have no data to bring me to such a conclusion." She said with a little smirk.
