"You didn't return any of my calls." Came the flat voice of the woman who was now moving up to him quickly, her husband jogging to try to catch up with her. "Why didn't you return any of my calls?!?"
"My lawyer said until things were settled that-"
"Were you there, when it happened?" The woman demanded as she finally stood a few feet from him, staring him down rather easily. Jack swallowed slowly. He knew the answer even before it came out of his mouth. No one, not even his lawyer, knew that he had been in the house. Jack had always been bright, and it didn't take a lot of knowledge of the news to know that specials were not exactly welcomed in society. If he said he'd mysteriously healed, he knew that it was what they would suspect him of... and a high profile supernatural was as good as dead.
"No... I-" Jack's words were cut off as the woman's hand came across his face hard enough to rattle his jaw and turn his head, nearly enough to make him falter to his knees, so fast it had come, and so hard. He could see she was cradling it as her husband ran up to grab her and prevent her from outright attacking him.
"Judith!" Mr. D'ambrosio growled as he held her.
"YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE THERE! SHE WENT THERE TO MEET YOU AND YOU WEREN'T THERE. IT SHOULD BE YOU THAT'S DEAD! YOU!!!" Ms. D'ambrosio spat.
Jack's eyes flew open and he suddenly shot forward to try to sit up, which, with Jia leaning over him as she was only caused his head to slam into hers as he did it, which immediately sent him back down, grumbling. The pain would only last for a minute though, it was something that was more of an annoyance than say the ass kicking that both of them had gotten, really.
Jia would see him glare at her as he tried to say something, gurgling as blood spilled across his lips, flecking lightly against her skin before he rolled over and let out the perhaps most horrific wretching sound she'd ever heard, as he coughed up blood, seeming almost more like he was vomiting it up, given the quantities that were spilling out of him, his eyes shutting tight as tears streamed down his cheeks for how hard he was coughing and wretching, until after a moment he finally managed to take in a slow rasping breath, then another, wiping his hand off of his sleeve.
"Fuck... I was pretty sure I was really going to die that time." Jack muttered ruefully, though it was unclear if he was being sarcastic, or he did in fact have some sort of twisted death wish.
Patting his pockets, Jack muttered to himself. "Thank god they didn't fucking take the flask..." he muttered as he pulled it out of his pocket and unscrewed the top, tilting his head back as he emptied the contents in a single series of gulps, coughing and growling as he finished. "Oh fuck... that fucking burns." Jack muttered as he turned to look at Jia, and glowered.
"And just what the fuck are you doing back here after I told you not to come back?" Jack said crossly. "Now I have to figure out some way of burning down all these goddamned trees without getting expelled..."
