Jia Li had danced like it was a party thrown just for her or something. She was getting plenty of attention for it, too. A couple of guys had approached her and, without asking, started dancing with her. Normally, she would have cared, but they had also brought her more alcohol which she readily consumed. It really was making her night a hell of a lot better, and with how the dancing was getting her blood pumping, it also proved to cause the alcohol to course through her body that much faster.
The dryad was a lightweight by most dryad standards, and the fact that she never drank probably didn’t help. However, dryads were able to heal faster than the average human, so she at least wasn’t as much of a lightweight as she could have been. Still, with the amount she’d already consumed, she was becoming tipsy, but when the alcohol the guys who’d approached her had run dry, she stopped dancing to go seek more.
That was when she ran into an incredibly gorgeous woman who was speaking to a man who was mixing drinks. He was cute, but he had eyes only for the raven-haired beauty. Still, there was something about the woman that drew even Jia Li to her, and because she was already feeling warm and fuzzy inside, she decided to talk to her. “That looks good. What is it?” The dryad asked, indicating the milky drink the other held.
“A White Russian. Want a taste?” The sensual quality of the exotic woman’s voice was intoxicating, and it even held a hint of an accent though the dryad couldn’t place it. It only served to make her seem more mysterious.
“Sure.” Jia Li replied brightly, taking the cup from the woman’s grasp and sipping from the cup. The way the woman looked at her made her feel vulnerable and exposed. She wasn’t sure she liked it, but she tried to remain friendly, letting the buzz mist her thoughts. Before she could reply, the woman spoke to the man.
“Make one for the lovely lady right here.” She felt happy to be complimented by someone so stunning, but the way the guy hardly glanced at her made her feel like she was nothing. When he handed her the drink, Jia Li sipped it and thanked the other before quickly finding an escape.
The dryad was a little unsteady on her feet, and the alcohol content of this drink seemed a little higher than it had been in the other woman’s, but it didn’t matter because once she started dancing again, she felt a lot happier about things.
She began dancing with a cute satyr when Kay approached and asked about her well being. A twinge of… something passed through her at seeing her friend, but another sip of her White Russian and it evaporated. A large smile moved over Jia Li’s full lips. “I’m great! I’m really glad you’re having this party, Kay. I haven’t had this much fun in a long time.” She saw Kay’s eyes on her cup, and she held it toward the siren. “Want some? It’s called a White Russian, and it’s delicious.” There was just a hint of a slur to the dryad’s words, but it wasn’t anything overly noticeable, and she was coherent enough.
